Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Hi guys and gals,

You probably all know it by now:
Here is the place for the good and the not so good stories.
What goes silky smooth, what caused trouble and everything in between about your making of the entries.

Bring it!

And never forget to pay attention to rule 11 at all times: Have fun!

It's been quiet here..
How is everyone doing? Still twisting your brains trying to come up with an idea?
That's about where I am so far.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Actually my first wonder is I came up with an idea within a half hour of posting on the theme. Then came the woe of not having time to work on it yet. :-) Hopefully I can get started this weekend, if not next.

My woe has begun, because my idea kept me from sleep for too long. It is too big an idea for a first attempt, so I am trying to find ways to reduce it without losing it altogether.

Sorted! As it will be heavily music based, I will use a shorter piece.

I am totally blank….. :(

Try this Ewald - it may get you started.

timing - definition of timing by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Because I have limited time in which to do this my story is very simple. Unfortunately, to work, it will rely on finding one or two things that are out of my control - just hope I will find them! Big hunt on tomorrow.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Tim, your idea sounds interesting. I look forward to see what you come up with.
And welcome to the uwol gang!

I got an idea. But then I would need to learn advanced CGI or animation real super quick.
I guess a new idea is required... Back to the think tank for me.

Lorinda Norton September 6th, 2013 09:39 AM

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Think tank is a much better place than the other one that gets mentioned around here... :)

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Went out today to find what I was looking for - and quite amazingly found the two essential shots I needed. Not the greatest of shots but at least I now have the ingredients for a story. Fortunately there is still time to find better shots to replace these but in the meantime these are in the bag.

Hope you all go well this weekend too.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Well I have an idea that I think may work. I am still working on my mountain caribou project, so I thought I would try to do something that I can incorporate into that down the track. Will be heading up into the mountains tomorrow, so I hope I can start to put something together for this one & stay out of the shark tank!

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

First, Tim, I always seem to think to big for these challenges. the trick is to think small but complete, I never find that easy!!

I have a plan but I will need a second person to shoot some shots for me as well. my subject will not be new to those that know me, but it includes Ducks, raptors, dogs (maybe) and people. And yes it is all about timing!! Hope to start shooting this weekend.

I got an idea, and (as my June challenge), I have only this weekend / two days to shoot. Good or bad timing... Time will tell, and off to the mountains I go.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Well, I hope I can finish but I have to say signing up has been the best things I've done in a while to fill the work schedule. If nothing else, you guys are great luck in regards to work. :-)

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Filmed some this weekend. Got the main shots.
Now I just need the rest... and that is the biggest woe. Will I get it or not. Time will tell.
Oh well, still plenty time until deadline.

How is everyone doing?

I have a little bit of footage in the bag, & an idea for this one, so hopefully I can manage to stay away from the shark tank for this one!

Well I have finally come up with an idea - and I hope I have time to film and edit before the deadline - good luck to all!

Heading back up into the mountains. Things are better all the time for me to be able to enter something for this round!! :)
Good luck to all.

When I saw the theme my immediate thought was 'This theme is tailor-made for Dale!" even though you had not signed up yet.

I have been picking up odd useful shots around my garden. I have another opportunity next Saturday to get a few more shots but it is the story that is the dog at the moment. Trying to write the script. Not easy. Hope you are all going well.

I'm trying some voice-morphing software on this one, so my narrative sounds like someone other than me. I was able to get the sound of a Texas school teacher. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unwanted overtones that have to be worked out. These inexpensive software products are intended to make you sound either like an elf or Darth Vader.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

That's interesting, Steve.
I look forward to see what you have come up with this time.

My entry is almost edited. Wish I had more than just a couple hours available for filming. Could need some more B-roll. (The rain ruined day 1)
But from the bright side, some living creatures were included.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

I can say I have a new found appreciation for those that get involved in this friendly little competition. It's not easy to balance the rest of life and pull it off so easy. Not complaining, I'm glad there is work to get in the way but it does make me look at what gets submitted in a different light. For some this really isn't any different than those 48 hour film challenges. My hat is off to those that submit something.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

How's it going out there? You've still got six days to finish and upload your masterpieces!

When you're ready, shoot me an email message through the forum and I'll send you the upload info. You may also send your request to uwol@dvinfo.net, but I'll see it sooner if you send straight to me.

Paul Wood September 28th, 2013 04:37 AM

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Well, in spite of many obstacles at home, I'm on the finishing straight - a couple of more shots to get, finish the edit, and cross the line!

Come on team - still time to finish!

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Mine is uploaded, and still many days until deadline. YAY!
Wonder when that happend last time...

Hope everyone does well. Can't wait to see all the films.

At the last minute I changed my plan.
The reason is that the IPCC presented its recent report on climate change and this got me to change the plan.
This means that I can not upload my video before Friday 4 October, since I'm away at work. Then it rather be a non qualifying video from me this round.
Attached is an image that says something about my video.
Hope everyone is doing fine.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Ok, well it looks like for the first time in a long time I will in fact get a film finished! I have been looking for a size limit on the file we upload to Vimeo. Is there a limit now? I can't seem to find any mention to one.
Hope everyone else is doing well with there film.

Regards,
Bryce

Lorinda Norton September 29th, 2013 10:03 PM

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

There is no limit on the file size, Bryce. Like I said in my email reply I'm very happy you're going to have an entry this round!

Sorry we'll miss your video in the competition, Geir Inge, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Bryce Comer September 29th, 2013 10:05 PM

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Thanks Lorinda! I second your thoughts of missing Geir's film, but also look forward to seeing it when it's done.

First, I would like to thank all of you that expressed your sympathies and condolences about my father. They are very much appreciated and will be remembered. Things did not work out well for me this round. I’m still suffering a bit from the peripeteia but hope to be back in stride next round. I had several strong ideas but was unable to execute upon any of them. It’s quite disappointing as I have a couple of new techniques I had hoped to share with you. Sorry to let the side down. My best wishes to you all.

We had a number of new folks sign up this round. If any of you, like me, were unable to complete this round, don’t be discouraged. Please sign up and try again next time. We will all be very happy if you do.

Good-luck to all the finishers!

Mike, hope you do well.
Sorry to hear you couldn't finish this round. But luckily December and the next round is right around the corner.

Mike,

I´m looking forward to see your new techniques in the next round!

Well it looks like I might have an entry this round. Not going to be what I hoped for but so far this area is living up to it's reputation. Windy!

Hey Mike,
Sorry to hear about your dad passing. Sorry too that you won't get to finish this round. I look forward to next round to see another entry from you.

Just to say that my film was finished this afternoon but I'm battling to upload it. Will try again now. Hope it gets ther on time.

Hello everyone.
I got leave from work tonight.
So that I can upload my video before the deadline expires.
Can anyone send me the password? Lorinda please?
Sorry for the mess.

Thank you Steve and Trond for helping out. Now trying to upload before returning back to work. You're the best.

Re: Tales of wonders and woes - UWOL 27

Sorry, Geir Inge--I've been away from home all day and didn't receive an email request. But you guys got it all handled so all's well. :)

Four entries so far with hopes for more! Marj, if you have technical troubles with the upload, don't worry. There's always leeway for problems like that.

A little housekeeping...could those of you who don't have your name visible on your entry edit the info to include it? It helps all of us know at a glance whose video we're about to watch. Thanks!

Thanks Lorinda. Eventually got it uploaded just past midnight S.A. time.

Sorry everyone, I wasn't able to complete a film.
Had it all mapped out, but couldn't line up the time to photograph it.
Hope to see you all next round.... Looking forward to seeing some of
the finishers.

I wasn't able to get out to film and put something together either. I had a master plan of tying in the timing of the dragonfly migration with the coming of fall but I just didn't get the time out to do it. I was also seeing them come through like crazy too, I just kept thinking, tomorrow I'll get out but it didn't happen. I did get a little macro footage and that was it.
