Has anyone thought about where to stay in Bristol? Any ideas of which hotels would be a good location in relation to where the wildscreen is?

I made a reservation at the Bristol Marriot Royal Hotel which is right across the street from the main venue for WildScreen.
Since I'm coming in the weekend before the festival started I wanted to get something booked just incase the hotels filled up for the festival.
There's a few places that are close to the main venue but this one was rated pretty well and wasn't out of line for price and like I said it's right across the street.
So party at the Railsback suite after we watch some amazing films! 😀😀

It made the most sense to me since it's right across the street from the main venue.
We'll be there Saturday morning before the festival begins on Monday so we can do some sightseeing and just relax.

Trond: I'm travelling from Aalesund to London and I guess your take off is Bergen. How do you plan to go from London airport to Bristol?

Hi all, I will be there with my wife and dogs. Luckily we can take our caravan and stay on a site alongside the harbour next to the SS Gt Britain and only 10 mins walk to the Watershed where most of the events are held. looking forward to meeting you all. There is so much to see and do in Bristol to keep my my wife occupied whilst I attend the events.

If previous years are to go by you can register on the Sunday. Maybe if enough of us are around maybe we could all meet up on the the Sunday evening in one of the many hostelries that line the waterfront in that vicinity.

A Sunday evening get together before the festival sounds like a wonderful idea!
We'll get into Bristol early Saturday morning.
Hopefully the hotel can lock up
Our luggage before our room is ready.
I know Karina would love to explore Bristol and not watch films all day. :)
We even though about taking the train to London one day if there no films or workshops I want to catch.

Got our passports out so there's no hassles searching for them last minute.
Plane tickets bought, festival passes bought, hotel reservstion made so we are pretty much all set!
Looking forward to meeting all of you and catching some great films!

Hi Kevin,I don't think you or Karina will bored, there will always be something on. At least 4 theatres though out the day with talks, demos and workshops. There will probably be a video room with lots of apple computer screens where you can view any of the panda entries at any time.The entertainment carries on with premiers, celebrity talks and various sponsor parties during the evenings. Thursday evening is the panda awards but, there is an extra charge for that, known as the wildlife Oscar's. This year, I believe for the first it will run into Friday which is a day dedicated to stills photography. The still photography side of Wildscreen was always a separate event and held in London, this year they have decided to run them back to back in the same city.

Kevin,If you have an issue with your luggage, which I am sure you won't, but if you do you are more than welcome to leave it with us as we will already be there when you arrive. just give us a call when you arrive in Bristol and I will drive over and collect it and yourselves if need be.

The problem I see for you, is that now you have your passports ready in a safe place, will you remember where that safe place is come October lol

That would be a huge relief for us if the hotel won't hold our bags until check in time,
The thought of Karina and I dragging our luggage behind us at 8:30 in the morning on the streets of Bristol would be pretty sad! :)

Ok, dumb American question time. I'll pay for all the big purchases with my credit card but for small stuff should I bring Euros or Pounds?

Really looking forward to this trip! Karina is really excited as well but I think her excitement is more about being the in UK than seeing the nature films. :)

We definitely want to hit Bag 'O Nails I think it is with the cats in the pub. Other than that we're open to explore anything and everything.

Looking so forward to meeting some of the UWOL family. How awesome is it that Mat will be there too!?

Kevin, Currency is UK pounds so you need your cash in UK pounds, we have never joined the the euro currency, may even be out of European Union by then if the government loses the referendum.

We Americans tend to be more concerned with Kobe Bryant's last NBA game than world affairs which is why I figured I better ask.
I'm guessing there are exchange services at the airport but I also think my bank can order Pounds for me at the going change rate and not have as high a fee.

I know the animal sanctuaries I donate to every month in the UK are Pounds but I figured I better ask just to make sure.

Right now one US dollar is about .71 British Pounds. So things will be a little more expensive but hey, we're in England! How awesome will that be! :)

Ordered a Nikon D500 that shoots 4k UHD video so I'll have a smaller film gear to travel with when we come over. Should also take some decent stills of all of us knocking down a few pints! ;)

Dollars are easily exchanged in banks here and some major high street shops have exchange booths in. Credit and debit cards are readily excepted, you can even make very small value purchases on them If you have a tap the machine type of card that allows to purchase up to £30 without the need to enter your pin number.

As a child 5 old shillings or 25 pence since decimalisation was always refereed to as Dollar, for many years you got 4 dollars to the pound. Happy days long gone!

Looking forward to seeing some of the results with your D500.

As for knocking back a few pints well, now you are talking lol

Have to meet a few friends depending upon them being in UK at that time. Hence my time in UK may be the above or few day plus.

I'm planning Monday 10th until Friday 14th.
Hopefully I will get vacation so I can go. Haven't bought any tickets for the wildscreen yet, but I take that as it comes. Most important is to meet all of you, and have a great time.

It really is a trip of a lifetime and needs to be documented... even if it's a snippet here and there.

I'll be celebrating a birthday during that time. What a wish come true to celebrate it there with the UWOL team. If you think of it, post a group photo here on the forum around October 9th, and my birthday wish will come true! ;-)

Any one knows where the Wildscreen event is organised, yes i see that they have a office address as
King St, Bristol, Avon BS1 4DZ, United Kingdom.
However is this the place the complete event is organised or is it only a office address.
Thought of asking as someone here might know.
