Okay, I guess the 4th time is the charm. The upload finally just worked for me. But I did try the same username and password 3 times already earlier today, so you might want to see if only one file can be uploaded at a time. Since it takes a while to upload, people might be bottled up at some point toward the new deadline. Just a thought to check out how it works, since I had so much trouble uploading. I hope someone will let me know if it didn't work. I took a small version of the file- it doesn't look great, but meets the contest rules.

If not let me know and I'll get you the info.

I finally decided on a method for encoding from a PC. First let me say that the Sorenson Squeeze demo looked great. But it is watermarked. So, I exported a DV AVI from Premiere Pro, converted it to Quicktime at the same 720X480 frame size, then converted that to 320X240.

I don't know why two conversions worked better than one, but so be it. That's what my eyes told me.

I'm off to ftp the file now...

Good Morning,

I believe I got mine on the ftp page. Once I got to the page I just cut and pasted it to the page.

As for compression I had some trouble to start with and was unhappy with the results.
I compressed it in sorenson 3, went to options and changed to wide screen and volia all seemed well in the universe.

I just hope I put it in the right place. Is there any way to0 find that out?

Dale,
Check the list of films in this thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=88949

As I move them to the proper directory, I add them to the list.
Just an FYI, there's a partial file sitting in the FTP folder so if your film isn;t listed in the above thread let Meryem know and we'll hunt around for it or you may need to re-upload it.

Don't lose the faith in the challenge because of the tech problems we've had.
They'll be hammered out by next challlenge I'm sure or Meryem, will probably delay the next challenge until they are :)

Even though there's still been bumps, I love this challenge and I hope we all continute to contribute, grow and learn from it.

Ungh.

I've been unable to get my file to compress much. Using Premiere Pro - sorensen 3 compression, lowered the bitrate and audio.

Still around 100mb

I've tried following all the tips in this thread, except the ones that require new software (which i can't buy right now).

Can anyone help me? Getting mighty frustrated. I've even removed all motion from the credits and cut 2 seconds off the opening title to try and save space.

If anyone can help in real time, check IRC undernet server, #videography room. I'll be there.

Double check the final screen size and try reducing the quality. With PP I and sorenson I can easily get down in size ....play with the quality.

I broke my sound down to like 64kbps in order to keep the visual quality.

Done

Figured it out.

In Premiere Pro 2, under File > Export

Adobe media Encoder

This menu item let's you pick different types - such as Quicktime web and Mpeg1

I used Mpeg1 and got 29mb that looked better then the 87mb QT Sorensen 3

Well, hopefully others who are using PPro2 might find this info helpful.

Another thing - i couldn't get IE to work for ftp, it kept reseting my connection at 9mb. but WS_FTP worked great to upload.
