Is there any use for my SD pro color production monitor in an HD environment?

If I'm moving to HD/HDV, is there any purpose in keeping my very nice Standard Definition Color Production Monitor (Sony PVM14L2)? In the field, studio or for editing purposes??

The picture is terrific, the colors are magnificent, it has SD Analog Component, S-Video, 16:9, Blue Only, Underscan, etc...

But is there any use for this with HD signals?
Is there any quality uses for this monitor with a downconverted SD signal?

Thanks,
Lonnie

For some of the Sony monitors you can get a add-on card that lets the monitor accept HD component or HD-SDI in.

2- You can still use it to check quality on SD material, if you are delivering SD. And chances are you will be delivering SD.

I still use my JVC SD monitor for HD stuff. my AJA IO LA will output the footage (not in realtime) so I can still use it for color correction. Of course, everything I do for the most part is going to SD DVD.

One quibble I ran into is that the FCP + the Aja Kona2 doesn't give a color accurate downconvert. The way to check is to output FCP's color bars... if you can never calibrate the monitor right, then you have that problem.

For Post-purposes, I was concerned about a down-converted image in and the color accuracies... and While Shooting, I'm concerned about a live down-convert for Critical Focus as well as colors...

You may have just confirmed my color suspisions...

Any ideas on the Sharpness of picture as to regard a live feed for Critical Focusing?

Thanks,
Lonnie
