Shooting BC Senior's Games, advice welcome!

Hi, I'm relatively new with only two years of experience so I'm very open to advise and new techniques/ideas for shooting something of this scale. I should give some info...the games located in Nanaimo BC Canada have a few thousand participants, with sports ranging from 'chess' to soccer, hockey, and cycling and all the track events you can think of! Very energetic people (55+)!
The goal is to promote our city, and games...as well as the organizational team...and to create a 'memories' dvd. It is low budget, and is being shot with two Z1Us so anyone with experience shooting sporting events, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance!
