After today's wedding, I think I have cracked when to use the jib.

Spectacular establishing shots of the venue. Was not to difficult to set up using the gh3 with voitglander lens. Will add some considerable production value to the wedding story.

Itching to try it out on the next shoot.

Ain't you seen a jib shot before? Am sure you have.

I don't do trailers for my clients. And I don't have enough jib work to put into a jib work montage at present.

So your request will have to wait till I get some outings with it. But am sure all you experienced shooters out there know what a jib shot looks like. Check out Phillip blooms blog out, he has done a nice piece on using a jib if you want to know the benefits of a jib rig.

When the highlights of this particular wedding is ready I will post it up.

Yes seen loads jib shots Matt but thought you where asking the original question and participating on the forum so its always nice when the videographer starts a question then he finds he has done something special that we can all see.Would have been nice to have seen the shots you are doing with the jib. Just seen a recent trailer of yours? Thought you don't do trailers? Anyways not a problem good luck with the jib!!

As I stated, I will post the jib shots as I got a decent length piece. Or alternatively when I do a highlights that contains a jib shot.

Trailers? Nope I don't do them. What you must of seen is a one song highlights section.

It won't be long till I have some jib work up, so keep an eye open for it ;)

Quick thought: alternatives to jibs include --

1. Steadicam
2. Slider mounted on tripod with head tilted 90 degrees
3. Monopod if you're brave.

For a sample of the second -- slider used for crane effect -- see: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/wedding-...nd-scenes.html

An alternative soon to come -- the hipjib: hipjib - unchaining your camera by Gert Wagner — Kickstarter

Well spotted. I have a Steddiepod and do that type of simple crane shot from time to time.

For me the Steddiepod is a great all-round wedding tool, helping me get a variety of shots from the one device. It may not be the best at any of those things but its fast to use and more than adequate for the tasks to hand.
