Cheap Glidecam Vest alternative
Hi,
I have an older Glidecam HD 2000, pretty much gathering dust as don't use it very often, but i have a couple of jobs coming that would benefit from using it. I always have the burning forearm issue when using it (even with a wrist support I purchased). So wanted to look at a vest, but as for in-frequent use I wanted to know if any has had any success with some cheaper Far-eastern alternatives? Thought about hiring, but to be honest would rather pay a little more, own it and have some time to get back to balancing / flying again so owning would give me a bit more time.... Thanks |

Re: Cheap Glidecam Vest alternative
Hi Vince
I have had a couple of the Indian ones from CineCity and they are not really well made but the vest and arm made by Weildy are brilliant and cheap too ..precision bearings and nicely machined - I think CAME-TV also sell them ... I paid $700 for the vest, dual arm and a carbon fibre sled with all the trimmings so you should get a vest and arm only for a lot less!! The Glidecam rig is very nice but a LOT more money. Just make sure the arm you get suits your camera + sled weight as springs are different. Mine was the 1kg to 7kg model and I sold it simply because my Lumix cameras just are not heavy enough for the spring arm to sit horizontal when loaded so I had to make plates under the camera. However the vest and arm from Weildy is nice and light and works really well!! |
