Cineform in Vegas: 8 bit session looks the same like 32 bit

In a Vegas 8 session containing Cineform intermediate files it makes no difference whether the session is set to 8 bit or 32 bit - the preview looks the same. Doing so with native HDV files shows significant differences in contrast. Can anyone explain? Thanks in advance.
