making an anamorphic dvd
 

I recently imported 24PA footage from my dvx100 (with on-cam 16:9 cropping) into vegas but cannot seem to render it as true anamorphic... I've tried to apply the 16:9 pan/crop tool along with rendering to Widescreen w/ 2-3-3-2 pulldown (AVI). Whenever i view it with media player it violently shakes back and forth and doesnt seem anamorphic, however with powerdvd it plays fine but it's not anamorphic (i see still see the black lines on top/bottom) What am i doing wrong?

Are you logging in as Administrator or not? You should never
de-activate any service you can in Windows. A lot of services
are really required for a correctly working system (depending on
what you are doing with it). Some services can be disabled
indeed.

The latest version of Vegas is 4.0e, I would definitely upgrade to
it. We cannot tell you whether or not this will help with your
problem because we still haven't identified the problem. Using
another problem doesn't mean the Vegas tool is the problem.

In these movies how do they make the green and tan so prevalent? It looks like saturation and contrast? How can I do this in Vegas?

OK folks, I'm sorry if this is too easy, but I've really tried to get this. Read the little manual, the help file, even Doug's book, and it seems this is too simple to really explain, or I'm too dumb.

Anyway, I just want to put some plain old text with a landscape shot behind it. White letters, (or black) with drop shadow. And then just have the landscape shot just be there.

I really need to understand all the modes that are possible in compositing - I've looked at the samples that are in the help file, and they are quite small, and it's hard to tell what's really going on there.

Can some one give me a hand?

have a look at teh making of clips and check out the raw footage :)

When wanting to layer something over something else, you place it on a track ABOVE the background. If you place it on the same track, it will replace the original background. So, set up the project as such:

Track 1: Text Generated Media
Track 2: Video background

Also, when adding the text generated media, pick one with a checkerboard background. That indicates that the background is transparent allowing track 2 to show through.

In the text generated media are many options including the drop shadow option.

Thanks, Edward. It worked just fine.

But there is some additional information that I didn't know about.

When I first did what you suggested, it still didn't work right. It showed the background through the letters. So I took a look at the compositing mode, and in my messing around, I had changed the compositing mode to "screen"

There are about 12 different modes that it can be in and I guess "source alpha" is the right mode.

I had also managed to add a "parent overlay mode" which was set on default.

In order to get rid of that, I had to delete the track then start over.

What I'm discovering is that if you are trying to do some, you need to remember to "undo" what you try each time, so that you don't end up with something that just doesn't work.

Thanks again, though. I've got it working now, but I still don't really get all the other options.

If you have the parent/child mode selected between tracks 1 and 2, the video will show in the LETTERS.

Any good or GREAT Vegas books/guides?
 

Can anyone reccomend any books or guides to help me get to that "next level" in terms of editing with Vegas?

I'm now quite comfortable with synching my multiple video and audio sources and using some different techniques (thanks E.T.!) to switch camera views...

But now I want to get a bit more creative with it. I'd like to crop around a portion of one of my video feeds and track the movment of the object within that crop and then mask the background out and then put some visuualization effects on that background.

I'm not even sure if these types of things are possible within Vegas and for the price I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't.

Any pointers or titles, or websites would be muchos appreciated.
