Best Color Correction In Vegas?

Hi,
Whatever I do, the result in Vegas color correcting doesn't satisfy me. Is there any plug-in for Vegas like Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse, which can do more than Vegas's one? Color Finesse seems to be one of the best, I think. A lot of options and settings there. With more saturation or not, the picture is pretty nice and you can feel density of the colors, while the color correctors in Vegas are so poor. So, any suggestions?

i use both ... i find the CC in vegas works 90% of the time ..there are some difficult shots that CF works better ... i think you'll find it the same with most NLE's ... CF was created for CC and it does it better then most NLE's ..

Glenn, thanks.

You seem to be indicating that the project properties settings not only change preview performance, but also interact with the render process.

I appreciate your suggestions of computer RGB and the nesting strategy - great way to assure that your results are easily repeatable through revision processes, kudos for thinking out the workflow to this extent.

I have never found a way of doing this. There is a video bus which you can add fx to but that affects all of the video tracks.

Perrone Ford November 18th, 2006 04:17 PM

Is it possible to group the tracks and apply FX to them? Or Group them and make one video bus and do effects on it?

Thanks Ed.

You can always add it as a nested VEG file in another project and apply the effect there.

Non-effect area

OK, they had this in Vegas 6 but I cant figure out how to do it in 7.
What it was is an area on the preview screen where it was the original unedited video source, and the rest of the screen was the edited version with effects on it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or more importantly how to do it?

Jacob Eirckson November 18th, 2006 08:31 PM

I would say if the the replies above dont work then try saving the setting you want for a preset, then put it on each of the clips.

Don Donatello November 18th, 2006 08:54 PM

to add a FX to ALL video tracks add the FX to the "video output FX" on the vegas monitor window ..

to add a fx to all audio tracks add it to the master FX on the VU meters

Sounds like the Split Screen View icon option.
It's the shaded circle at the top of the preview window.
After enabling an effect, click on it to enable it.
You can select the right or left half or click your mouse and drag to select a specific area.

Jacob Eirckson November 18th, 2006 10:24 PM

yes it was that, thank you very much

Glenn Chan November 19th, 2006 12:25 AM

The "render as" settings override some of the project properties settings. That was what I was talking about in case it wasn't clear. I don't know if interlaced/progressive in the render as settings override the project properties; (I don't remember testing this).

I like the color correction tools in Vegas. You can do things like isolating corrections in masks, which Color Finesse cannot do (although its host may be able to do it; i.e. After Effects can do it).

2- You might find the looks in VASST Celluloid and Magic Bullet Editor's interesting. (I think there are sample MB looks that come with Vegas.)

3- Are there any particular problems that you are encountering?
