Yep, their site is being hammered or is down.

Seth Bloombaum January 28th, 2010 11:11 AM

Can't seem to get in to this online event.

Anyone else having better luck?

Roy Feldman January 28th, 2010 11:11 AM

Cant't log on

David Jasany January 28th, 2010 11:14 AM

Not working for me either. In fact, it appears www.sonycreativesoftware.com is down.

Agreed.
This should have been MUCH better planned :-(

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 11:17 AM

Very disappointed! Can't log on having driven three and a half hours to get home to watch it.

I have got onto the main website now but it's not rendering properly - just a list of links with the graphic items taking for ever to download.

The webinar must be oversubscribed. Not very impressive . . .

Keith Paisley January 28th, 2010 11:20 AM

I registered for it but I can't seem to get in. Their servers must be getting hammered.

Adam Sturman January 28th, 2010 11:21 AM

I just hope they offer a way to download an archive of the event, if it is even happening at this point....

Adam Sturman January 28th, 2010 11:24 AM

mine just loaded!

Call me overcautious, but if I were to be presenting a webinar on this scale I think I would look for it to be served up from somewhere OTHER than the same place that hosts my main site!

Did anyone get a confirmation email out of interest, or just the calendar item with the link (which I thought was a bit minimal!)?

Graham Bernard January 28th, 2010 11:25 AM

I registered.

I came back from my partner being in Hospital to watch.

Left the page open to see it.

Pooof! Gone . . not impressed . . .

A real downer . . .

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 11:26 AM

Grazie, hope all's OK with your partner.

Good to see there will be an archive of the event.

Adam Sturman January 28th, 2010 11:27 AM

Well done Jim Lee for getting his question in early ;-)

Roy Feldman January 28th, 2010 11:30 AM

at least they teased us for a few minutes

ten minutes ago they offered us hope.

Graham Bernard January 28th, 2010 11:32 AM

Yes, very impresed. NOT!

Mike Kujbida January 28th, 2010 11:34 AM

Finally in and patiently waiting :-)

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 11:36 AM

Finally got on to the site. Disappointed to see this comment:

Our sincerest apologies. Thank you to those of you who were able to get in. There were many more who did not. Therefore, we will be rescheduling and sending an email announcement shortly.

Thursday January 28, 2010 11:31

Jay Allen January 28th, 2010 11:38 AM

not working and not suprised

Must of been done by the same guys who made the Toyota accelerators.

Adam Sturman January 28th, 2010 11:39 AM

wow, I just cant see adobe or apple making this mistake....

I know, this shouldnt reflect on the quality of their software, recently, but.....

Roy Feldman January 28th, 2010 11:43 AM

So it's cancelled?

am I interpeting their last message correctly?

Graham Bernard January 28th, 2010 11:48 AM

I'm IN and got a standby signal . .

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 11:49 AM

Not sure that it's cancelled, Roy, just that not everyone was able to get on. At least that's what appears to have happened. It's actually not clear.

I posted a comment to the message window (and it confirmed sending) but it hasn't been posted in the list. I said how disappointed I was and asked if the presentation materials would be available today. I suspect they have been inundated with such messages and have switched the facility off.

I'm not going to gamble with it working next time (I lost 3 working hours today to get home to watch this) so I'll wait for the materials to be made available.

EDIT: Hmmm . . . on re-reading the apology message it does appear that they are apologising to EVERYONE, so maybe it was cancelled.

Graham Bernard January 28th, 2010 11:56 AM

A Moist Firework . . . .

Seth Bloombaum January 28th, 2010 12:13 PM

As a working webcaster, I can tell you this stuff ain't easy. There's a whole bunch of things that need to work right on multiple servers of different types and a streaming content delivery network to pull off a large-scale live webcast. Then there's the origination and live encoding of content... it's complex, indeed!

Regarding the allure of live... I suspect Ian and Grazie won't be going far out of their way to see the next live SCS event. On the internet, people are used to getting the information they want *when* they want it. So, an on-demand archive of the webcast will be preferred by many viewers.

Having said all that, if I'd produced this webcast on behalf of a client, I'd be fired, I'd lose the client. That's why I test, test, test, and test again prior to any live webcast!

Word to the wise - you have one chance to impress your audience and build credibility and a following in a live webcast.

Thomas Moore January 28th, 2010 12:23 PM

Please post the link to the archive for those of us who couldn't make it...

Mike Kujbida January 28th, 2010 12:26 PM

Thomas, there is no archive because it never happened.
See Ian Stark's reply above for the message that was left on the site.

Graham Bernard January 28th, 2010 12:37 PM

Actually, Seth, I would go out of my way.

Grazie

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 12:49 PM

Re the archive, I got the impression that the seminar comprised around 30 minutes of pre-prepared material to be followed by the live Q&A. I understood that they were going to post up the prepared materials, which presumably they still could do. At least I hope that's what they meant. As Seth rightly points out, I for one will probably not go out of my way to register for another live event!

Yang Wen January 28th, 2010 01:51 PM

If it's a webinar there should be a recorded version of it online soon huh?

Mike Kujbida January 28th, 2010 01:59 PM

Yang, due to technical difficulties it didn't happen so there's nothing to watch.

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 02:04 PM

I'm sure people will have seen this already, but for completeness:

Webinar Rescheduled
Thank you very much for registering for the 10 Vegas Pro Techniques for Power Editing webinar. We sincerely apologize for the technical difficulties and we've rescheduled this presentation to take place next Wednesday, February 3, at 11:00 CST. Please watch your email for further details.

Sorry Grazie - shouldn't speak for you.

Still though, there's nothing quite as unforgiving as live.

I am hopeful that SCS makes an archive available when this event actually happens.

Seth, someone said earlier in this thread that it would be archived for off-line viewing.
I know that, after today's fiasco, that's the route a lot of folks will be taking :-(

Ian Stark January 28th, 2010 05:18 PM

I would be very surprised if they made it available before the rescheduled event next week though.

Mike Kujbida January 28th, 2010 06:01 PM

Ian, while that would be the "right thing" to do, I also have my doubts that it\'ll happen.
