Copy media not working - Vegas 9.e

A friend told me I could save a (timeline) Veg file plus just the parts of the files I was using in the project.
But when I try to do it - in "copy media options" I activate "create trimmed copies of source media", the files saved with the Veg file are always the original files, never the parts I`m using in the timeline.
Is there any set up in Vegas 9.e that I should change?
Thanks

Not all file types can be trimmed. Perhaps you are using one of those types.

Thank you Edward.
I tried h.264 from Canon HDSLR, MJPEG from Pentax HDSLR and Cineform Neoscene. It didn`t work.
So this resourse is very restricted, isn`t it?
Is there any list of the files that can be trimmed?
Best
Ron

In the Pro 9 manual, it says that you can trim DV-AVI, uncompressed AVI, Sony YUV AVI and CineForm AVI files.
Any other format will not be trimmed but simply copied as is.

Generally speaking... I would expect if it can be "smart rendered" that it could also be "trimmed". The formats listed by Mike can definitely be smart rendered. They've been adding more formats that can be smart rendered as well. As new formats are added to that list, I would suspect they can also be trimmed. I don't know this for a fact but it would make sense to me.
