Vegas 10b will not open

Just updated to 10b as per the notification. Installed, restarted PC. Clicked on icon, nothing, uninstalled, reinstalled, click on icon still nothing!

Can Sony do anything right?

Any ideas how to fix?

working here, but that's no consolation i know.

don't know what your systems is, etc., but can't you restore to a point before you installed 10b?

have you checked task manager to see if it is perhaps running but not showing?

and talking of scs, releasing it with a flakey sony mp4 render plugin does, in the general scheme of things, require someone's hand being smacked.....

hope you get sorted - all the best for the new year....

Vegas 10a should not be uninstalled until you are happy with 10b. There is no reason to uninstall a. They reside in different directories.

Sorry, but no. Different versions (i.e., 8, 9, 10, etc) reside in different directories. But the a, b, c, etc, do not. The update just overwrites the files in the existing install directory. It is D:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 10.0 on my computer, but typically will be in C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 10.0, assuming you have the Pro version. Version 10 is version 10 regardless of which letter (if any) follows it.

Now, if you explicitly told the installer to use a different directory for each letter, that would probably work. But when you tell it to upgrade, it does not even ask you where to write the files to, it just writes the changed files to the directory 10 was installed in.

If, however, you were upgrading from a previous version (such as 9), it would default to a separate directory and would not uninstall the previous version.

I installed a couple of days ago on my Dell XPS 420 (still 32 bit) and I had no problem with an HDV project I had to quickly slap together.

I uninstalled it when the icon wouldn't work as per the original post.

After I installed 10b, I started getting "Error 0x80010105 (message missing)" when rendering an M2TS video from my Sony HXR-NX5U. I uninstalled and re-installed, but It didn't help. The clip is 30 minutes, and rendering fails near the end. Small, short clips render with no error. I was able to convert the clip to an MP4 using "Emicsoft M2TS Converter" so I don't think the clip file is corrupt. I'm about ready to go back to 10a and see if that fixes the issue.

I haven't tried it yet, but looks like I just found the fix for my issue:

Please ignore my ridiculous post above. a and b DO reside in the same directory...I was thinking of different versions (Vegas 9 vs 10). I must have been on cold medicine when I wrote that. So sorry to have added to anyone's confusion. I just saw my post and couldn't believe what I wrote!

If you try to install b and run into the same issue again Lee, you might try going to the icon located in the Sony folder in your program files folder and see if that one works. If it does, simply copy and paste that one to your desktop, or wherever.
