Preview Screen remains Black in explorer

I am learning many new things in Vegas since i recently received my Sony Production DVD and my Class on Demand Learning Vegas DVD, but i am having an issue when trying to preview the clip through the explorer.

In the EXPLORER tab i highlight the clip, then i push the play button. I can hear the audio, but can not see any video. The preview screen remains black. Is there a setting I missed somwhere.

BTW for any newbie... besides this forum...The CLASS ON DEMAND video is worth every penny.

I had this problem trying to playback a .mov clip after I upgraded Quicktime. It was a bug in quicktime. I reinstalled an older version of Quicktime and everything went fine. Is it your case?

Vegas 8.0c also added a new "feature". Instead of previewing in the preview screen, it now previews in the TRIMMER which, in 8.0c, is hidden by default.

You can turn that functionality off. Go to the trimmer and look at the various buttons there. A search here should also reveal many posts talking about this.
