10e recompressing
 

Hello. I'm trying to render from an m2ts file. Just a straight render, no transitions. Using 10e 64-bit, I'm not getting the 'no recompression required' message, and it appears to be re-rendering the entire file. I have Vegas 9 loaded up on the same PC, and it's not behaving that way. I'm pretty sure all my output settings are the same as the input file, and the no recompress option is checked. Any ideas?

make sure the fx are clear (not green), that there's no track or pan / crop, and that the transparency slider is at 0, even a minute amount will re-encode

Hi Leslie. Thanks, but there are no f/x. I'm, literally, just dropping an m2ts file onto the timeline. No f/x, transitions or anything fancy.

Have you made sure the Project Properties are also set to match the original file, not just the render settings?

Hi

What format is in the m2ts file? Sony Vegas can't smart render, so will need to re-compress most HD content using the H264 codec.

It's 1080p right out of a Sony camcorder. Vegas 9 has never had a problem with smart rendering these files.

These are the supported smart rendering formats, are you using one of these?

DV AVI, DV MXF, IMX MXF (IMX 24p MXF is not supported for no-recompress rendering), HD MXF, MPEG-2 (for files such as those from HDV and DVD camcorders), and XDCAM EX.

It's the .m2ts files that are produced by my Sony camcorder. I think those are mpeg-2. Like I said, works fine in Vegas 9. Might just have to stick with that.

Just tried this in 64bit Vegas 10
90min of capture in 3 clips from a Canon HV20
Just wanted to make one file for easier syncing.
Flying along right now at 9%, black screen, No re-compression required.
Just chose the first template and changed to 25fps to match my footage.
All good.

Even though the acronym suggests mpeg 2, your camcorder is AVCHD, depending on whether you transferred the clips to your pc using the camera's software, drag+drop, or device explorer, you will either get a mts or m2ts extension, and the codec is actually AVC a subset of the h264 spec. The .m2t extension is mpeg 2 HDV format. Even though the listed smart render formats don't seem to include AVC, a search on the web seems to indicate it is possible for some people. Maybe make sure "Enable no-recompress long-GOP rendering" option is checked? or make sure you are actually rendering out to the same (AVC) format/settings? Hope all this info is correct, and helps, or at least gives some ideas that lead to a solution!
