Vegas 12 should open Vegas 11 projects exactly the same way there shouldn't be any difference. Sounds like you nested the project into Vegas 12?

Yup, sounds like a Nest to me. Did you Drag the Veg onto VP12 Timeline?

But apparently you can't open v12 in v11...correct?

Graham Bernard October 15th, 2012 09:27 PM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Correct. Never been able to go backwards to an earlier Number release of Vegas: 12 into 11; 11 into 10; 10 into 9.... And so on.

no, I oppened the project, and i tried all possible ways, "open with", file>open, double click from vegas Explorer, but i do get it like nested project every time, is there setting somewhere?

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Anyone having issues rendering? I'm struggling to get a render out, Vegas 12 keeps freezing on random .PNG overlays. A quick render is turning into a huge waste on time & sadly can't take my project back to V11.

Nicholas, PNG problems appear to be an issue that has just surfaced and no one has a definitive answer yet.
Check out this recent thread on the Sony Vegas forum.
Strange behavior of PNG files in VP12

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Nicholas, see if you can convert your png files to jpg and replace, should end issue.

Mike Kujbida October 16th, 2012 08:25 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

I use IrfanView (it's free and a great tool) to convert from one format to another.
IrfanView

The only issue would be if alpha channel capability is needed which JPEG doesn't offer.
If that's the case, try PSD or TGA.

Jeff Harper October 16th, 2012 08:58 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Yes, Mike is right. Irfanview does batch processing so you can convert hundreds of photos to your specifications quickly, takes almost no time. Great tool, much faster than anything I know too.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Buba, I usually right-click drag it to the timeline and then choose "Open Project". That will open the project as normal instead of as nested.

However, File - Open and picking the VEG file should work as well.

Nicholas de Kock October 16th, 2012 10:28 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Okay onto the next problem: V12 isn't doing Smart Renders, the "No Recompression Required." I can't remember if it's an option I should activate somewhere. V11 works, I redid the project in V11 no problems.

Edward Troxel October 16th, 2012 10:54 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

It's not something you need to turn on somewhere but you do have to go from/to the same format and not all formats will smart render.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Edward I understand but V12 won't Smart Render & I'm using the exact same Render Profiles imported from V11. I've been smart rendering with Cineform for two years when done in V11 it works fine but V12 won't do it, exact same settings. I must be missing something or it's V12.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

There is a setting in options/preferences. General tab enable no recompress long gop rendering. Maybe this helps....

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Still no luck on the Smart Render but I discovered by disabling GPU Acceleration my Vegas is a lot more stable.

Started to edit two long-term projects yesterday with Vegas Pro 11 on my old Q6600 Quad Core PC, but got annoyed with crashes and freezes. I eventually bit the bullet and went out and treated myself to a new i7 base unit, came home and downloaded Vegas 12 Pro.
Amazing - both for the PC and Vegas 12. At last editing is the delight that it ought to be!
I was dazzled by the rendering times as well: I'm actually getting renders quicker than real-time for the first time ever...and NewBlue Pro Titler actually works for me, which it wouldn't before.
I love the whole feel of v12.

...back to the edit now...

Graham Bernard October 25th, 2012 02:44 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Robin, yes, it's terrific.

There are a few more labour saving Workspace options now. I like the Double-Decking of Panes and the more intuitive and THUMBNAILS in VegasExplorer. The rendering speeds and previewing are blistering. It will give you a new view into editing and how you get the feel for the narrative better.

For me, now on VP12, NB ProTitler is the revelation that was promised. Clean clear renders to DVD and MP4. I'm proud to use it.

Now, if you do any complex FX-ing, will talk again (wink) . . . . .

Robin, as to Workspacing, do a "S"plit. Hover over the split and double-clcik - stand back and go "wooah!" - Yeah? Looks familiar?

I was very happy when I saw export to after effects option. I was happy untill I tried it. Anyone had experiences with it? My whole project is time-stretched (almost every clip), and when I export it to .prproj, it is ignored, and everything is messed up in after effects when I import it... any workaround with this?

What model did you get and from who? Any recommendations? I want a new machine but the main brands fill their PCs with junkware and the independent builders have mixed reviews...

Re: Vegas Pro 12

David, I just Overclocked my i7 3770k 3.5GHz to 4.5GHz with a cooler named corsair H100...
I now editing in a blazing speed... The clock and amount of cores on that cpu, makes Vegas Pro to realtime editing software... For real...

Of course the GPU of my GTX 670 does help too. And the 32GB of RAM makes Vegas to respond really quick...

Temp idle 27 celscius. Temp rendeing 68 celcius.

If your goig to buy a consumer cpu, only choice for great editing is i7 2600k, i7 2700k, 3770k, 3820 and 3930k.

3930k is a faster render machine because of the amount of cores. But for workflow example the 3770k of its ability to have higher clockspeed. And better overclock with less heat.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Dave,
After a lot of looking around web sites, I decided on the Advent DT2315.

AMD Radeon HD 7750 graphics card
Operating system: Windows® 7 Home Premium

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3770 processor (3.40 GHz; 3.90 GHz Max Turbo Frequency: 8MB cache memory)

Memory: 16GB

Hard drive: 3TB

Optical drive: Multi-DVD RW

USB ports: Eight (two front; six rear, two of which are USB 3)

Reasonable spec, and certainly does the business - no complaints at all.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Both responses very much appreciated, I shall take a look at both ideas.

And apologies to everyone else for hijacking the thread (he realised, after he did it. Sorry)

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Having used VP12 successfully for a couple of months, I'm now finding that the Sony AVC/MVC option has disappeared from the 'Render As' list.
I've done some searching online and have found a thread on another forum relating to the same problem with VP11 last year. The advice was to check that the project settings were not set to match the media, and also move the Sony codec FileIO Plug-In file (mp4plug3) away from its location, boot and shutdown VP, then return it whereupon starting Vegas again, will find it and add it to the list.
Well, that didn't work, nor did upgrading to build 394.
By the way, I still have VP10 active on the same platform and its Sony AVC/MVC codec is present and functional.

Has anybody here had a similar problem?

Hi Steve. I have those options revealed here, in VP394. Screen grab attached.

I didn't apply any of those remedies; I tried both "Adjust . . " and not. Here it isn't making any difference, both ways allow for the Render options.

Cheers

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Hi Grazie,

Thanks for the response. Well I've taken a screen shot of the Render As dialog box which shows just three Sony codecs:
Sony MXF (*.mxf)
Sony MXF HDCAM SR (*.mxf)
Sony Perfect Clarity Audio (*.pca)
There are no other Sony codecs in the list. None of the filter options are selected and if I search for 'Sony AVC/MVC' nothing is found.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any controls when I post so I can't include the jpeg of the dialog box.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Hi Grazie,

You are right. The Render As box shows all of the codecs except the Sony AVC/MVC one. Whatever I put on the timeline for rendering, I cannot get the Sony AVC/MVC one to appear.
I have Vegas Pro 10 still on the platform so I can render using that codec, but as Vegas's project files are not backward compatible, it means that any project created on VP12 cannot be loaded into VP10 for rendering.
I have updated the GPU drivers, (its an ATI HD 4650) but I don't use it for rendering,

What 3rd party plugins do you have installed?

Steve Game December 31st, 2012 03:11 PM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Hi Edward,

Apart from DNxHD codec I don't have any installed, even the New Blue ones supplied with VP12. The the full set supplied with VP10 is there though, but they have been installed for 2 years.
When I first installed VP12, there was much discussion about possible problems with New Blue Titler Pro 1, so I left it out. The Sony AVC codec in VP12 was working until late November at least.

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Steve, that's the reason I asked. I know an older version of Titler Pro caused that. This issue has since been resolved and is no longer an issue with Titler Pro 1 or 2.

Steve Game December 31st, 2012 06:49 PM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Edward,

So where would you suggest I go now? I would like to keep the VP10 installation as is for a while, even though I don't use Titler Pro at all. I expect to do a complete platform rebuild soon onto a SSD, so the problem may just not reappear. I would like to get VP12 working on Sony AVC first as the Media Concepts AVC implementation doesn't have the options and doesn't seem to produce as good video images.

Steve

p.s. Its 2013 here so happy new year to all including those who aren't quite there yet.

Edward Troxel January 2nd, 2013 10:09 AM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

If you don't have any third party software installed, I'm not sure why it would not appear. In fact, I don't know why it would not appear even if you do have the current versions of 3rd party software installed. The only suggestion I'd be able to make would be to uninstall all Sony products, clear out the registry, and then reinstall all Sony products. There are instructions to do that on Sony's website.

Steve Game January 2nd, 2013 02:18 PM

Re: Vegas Pro 12

Edward,

As I will be rebuilding soon onto an SSD, I will put V12 on first to check for normal operation. Then I shall check after each of the other Sony applications/versions.
Thanks for the advice.

Steve
