improved Batch Render?

i've been using vegas for a few years but only recently had the need to do batch rendering. as others have pointed out on this forum and elsewhere, it's a bit limiting as far as having to edit the script itself to do simple things like enable/disable overwriting or to use region name in the rendered filename.

i know there's excalibur and other scripts out there that have lots of flexibility, but being a hardcore software engineer (c++, java, php), i thought i'd tackle coming up with an improved version and learn a bit about vegas scripting in the process. here's what i plan on including...

1. checkbox to enable/disable overwriting existing files

2. flexibility in rendered filename -- allowing user to decide if it includes render type, render template, region name, project name, etc

3. ability to store rendered files in different directories and creating the directories for you

4. ability to choose which regions to render -- rather than forcing all regions to be rendered

is this something anyone else would be interested in? are there other features that would be useful?

You might want to see the changes made in this version:

http://www.jetdv.com/scripts/BatchRender5.cs

It has some additional render options already added to the version that was current in 2009 such as the region render option. Just compare it to the original version to see the changes.

Gerald, right-click on the link and save it to the desired location.
To install it, drop it in your Vegas script folder and run it when needed.
Add it to your toolbar of you want to.

Re: improved Batch Render?

I myself am not a student of vegas scripting, just a user very grateful for Excalibur. With Edward's small mod that allows access to all rendering templates, it does great for me, I use it all the time.

But, if I were writing a batching script to rule them all, I'd want to refer to the batch render in the still graphics utility IrfanView. Oh my goodness, it enables so much, including filename manipulations, format conversions, working direct from directories - worth looking at for ideas.

You're welcome Gerald.
Seth, I agree about IrfanView. It's been my go to utility for several years because it's so quick and easy to use and so flexible too.
