Corrupted .veg file repair?

A Sony Vegas project went corrupt as I was about to render, Vegas did not create a .bak file for some reason & now I have no way to open a project that took hours of editing. Is there anyway to repair a corrupted .veg file?

The only way I've ever heard of is to send the file to Sony Tech Support in the hope that they can fix it.

Good luck with it Nicholas. Just be patient as Sony has been known to take some time to respond to requests for help.

Problem is the project needs to be delivered this week if I don't get a response soon I'll be forced to re-edit.

In that case I'd start re-editing as, in my past experiences, it takes at least a week (if not longer) before you get a first response :(

Did you try the .bak file?

In the future, use something like AutoSave that's installed when installing Excalibur to create backup files every x minutes. Then you'll have a series of backup files you can use if something like this happens.

Re: Corrupted .veg file repair?

When I work on a very important or complex Vegas project, I sequentially rename the project (Ver 001, 002 etc.) at each major step of the editing process. That way you leave behind a series of project files that can be the basis of re-editing if something goes wrong with the final Vegas project file and final bak file.

Vegas 8 AutoSave Custom Command
( http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/what-hap...m-command.html and
www.jetdv.com :: View topic - AutoSave Custom Command )
is still working with Vegas 12. Of course, for the installation of program is necessary to have a Vegas 8th version.

While you wait, I'd start re-editing, in panic mode it's amazing how much you can remember.
And save save save of course. Good luck.

Cheers.

Re: Corrupted .veg file repair?

Was forced to start re-edit, couldn't wait any longer for Sony to respond had to hire in a 2nd editor to help. Just annoying to know that a project is edited, graded & ready for render only to go corrupt with no .bak file. Thanks for the advice, I have Auto Save & sequentiality save different project files as I edit this one just happened to slip past as it was done on another system.

Update: Sony couldn't do anything. Seems that if you have a corrupt file you're pretty much screwed.

Hello Nicholas,

I guess you already solved your issue by re-editing the footage but maybe you could check whether the guy's from Aero Quartet could do something with the corrupted file. You can diagnose it for free the file at MP4repair.org. This test may be useful for any other in same situation.
