If you do a search I did a full explanation of this.

Play the clip until you get to the end (what you now want at the beginning) of the clip.

Stop and press "S" (or trim to that point - really doesn't make a difference)

Apply the velocity envelope to the clip on the RIGHT side of the cursor and delete the clip on the left side of the cursor.

Set the proper velocity.

Change the length and position of the reversed clip as needed.

Currently in Vegas when I apply a velocity envelope to an event I am not getting the green line down the center of the event I usually do. I assume, like most of my Vegas problems, there is a simple solution, something I have inadvertently clicked. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Check under View > Video Envelopes > Event Velocity

I just don't like how all of the Envelopes can overlap one another. when you first insert them I often have a Fade to Color envelope on a track, then want to add a velocity envelope only to have it appear behind the Fade, and I have to turn off Fade to get to adjust the Velocity, then turn it back on, etc... A bit time consuming when you get creative with envelopes.

It'd be nice to have a small vertical indent caption thingy, one for each type of envelope that you can mouse click on to select the envelope you want to use if they are tight together.

You can do a couple things. One is to drag the track taller, giving you a wider area to see the envelopes in. Also, once you click on a "free" node, the nodes for that envelope come to the front. I do this all the time with volume and pan envelopes.

The last but one videoclip and the last videoclip I will have together. (The last but one videoclip is a clip from nature and the last videoclip is a rolling text.)

How do I do that?

Put the video on track TWO and the title on track ONE.

For the title, use one of the checkerboard backgrounds and the video will show through with the title above it.

Well I did what you say but use "Text" instead of "checkerboard" (because checkerboard didn't work).

And now I have the text om my last videoclip. Good! One thing is left: How do I get the text rolling?

Torsten, when Ed says "Chequer Board", he doesn't mean the "solid" background CB - I know, it's sounds contradictory . . but the CB in the Generated Media is like . . well, an opaque design. The OTHER CB is that which shows tranparent. Chequers on the Text media shows transparent, and THIER chequers just infomr the editor that the background IS transparent. CB on the solid media WILL be opaque. I would think this is why you aren't getting any success at th moment - yeah?

To get it to scroll, use the "credit roll" preset.

OR, you can use the "positioning" tab on the text media and use two keyframes: The first keyframe with it off the bottom and the second keyframe with it off the top.

I just discovered an amazing effect.

Video FX - Sharpen - Heavy.

When I inserted that to a videoclip I was stunned. I was before thinking that my Canon XM2 were given very sharp video, but this effect really shaken me. I didn't thought a videoprogram could sharpen videoclip so brilliant.

How could a program do such a marvelous thing?

And is it a good idea to have that effect to all the film? (I have a nature film.)

I have not yet seen how this effect looks in TV, only in Video Preview, and that is amazing.

When do you use that effect?

I would definitely check it on an external monitor. Often things look different on the preview window than on a standard TV.

Two queries: fonts and audio
 

Okay, first:

I had an audio clip to which I wanted to add reverb, or an echo effect. For some reason, absolutely did nothing, no matter which settings I tried. I used the "apply non-realtime effects" option to a single audio clip. After the new clip was created ("blah blah blah Take 2" or whatever it was called), still no difference. Is there some trick to getting delay/reverb/echo effects working?

Next:

A lot of the time, when I try different fonts for titling, in the preview window in Vegas, they'll look exactly the same, even if it' supposed to be a Cursive type font. However, in the window (dialogue box?) where you select the fonts themselves, size, etc., it'll look correct. Why is this? I recently lost a hard drive for no apparent reason, and with it went microsoft word. Do I not have these fonts anymore, even though they're selectable in Vegas?

I think I'd try reinstalling Vegas. I haven't had a problem in either of these areas.

Captuing fro Sony TRV-8
 

I bought a TRV-8 at a pawn shop to use as a deck (to save wear and tear on my XL-1s). But when I try to capture in Vegas from it, Vegas doesn't see the device. What am I doing wrong? It sees my XL-1s just fine.

Ah. . man. . .you're killin' me.

Those filters do the opposite of blur. It doesn't do the exact reverse of what your camera is doing but should do a pretty good job of making footage a lot sharper. If you do it too much your edges will look weird. They'll have something like halos around them.

Make sure you check it on a TV. Your TV has a setting for sharpness, which kinda does the same thing as the sharpness filter. Feed it a perfect image from another source (i.e. digital picture) to adjust the sharpness setting on the TV.

Vegas movies will not work with frontpage
 

I've been trying to add videos from Vegas to MS frontpage but for some reason they do not want to play. I tried rendering as AVI, MOV, MPEG and none work. However, when i render a movie in premiere and drag it into FrontPage, it works perfectly. Does anyone know what this can be?? Thanks!

Hmmm this worries me. I'm going to be doing video web work for a guy and he's using Front Page. Hmmm.

What template are you using? Are you making "any" changes to them?

Have you tried WMV?

For the others, compare settings. Make sure you use the same settings in Vegas you are in Premiere. Vegas produces perfectly good files. I don't use Front Page but have no problems using files generated by Vegas on my web page.

I use Frontpage 2002 and have not encountered this problem at all. As such, I cannot help Dan with his problem but can reassure Glen that it does work and this may just be an isolated incident.

Vertical Smears on DVAVI after render
 

Hey all, just wondering if anyone has had issues with this:

I recently did a few different variations and after reprocessing (and rendering to raw dv avi) I have noticed some degredation in the footage, which is quite prominent..

Now it's more noticable on material which i converted FROM mpg to avi, however there is SOME on the raw AVI's.

Any ideas as to what would be a good setting to reduce these vertical lines???

They look like scanlines, however they're vertical...

By the way, im in PAL land if that makes any difference....

Can you show us a sample (before, after, what was done besides just rendering - i.e. any effects applied)?

How is Vegas in it's output of frame grabs from interlaced footage?
I'v made some stills. I know to set it to "full/best". Is it really necessary to also change the properties setting to "interpolate" for best results, or are all stills interpolated regardless?
Anyone noticed any quality improvement using PNG over JPG?
Haven't noticed any difference myself.
Any other hints for best results?

Probably your best solution would be to use one of the scripts that output images. They generally change all of the settings necessary for the best possible output and then reset the settings back to the original settings upon completion. There are several different versions available.

As for the format, JPG is lossy - PNG is not. So, PNG should be better. However, if you're happy with the JPG's, use them (I'm ususally happy with the JPGs.)

Having said all of the above, I usually just change to BEST - FULL, click on the save picture button, and save as JPG's.

That would require an authoring program that allowed true multiple audio tracks. There may also be other requirements above even that. I'm sure the DVDs with this capability were NOT created with a $200 authoring program - probably more like $20,000!

I guess that's about right. I figured Adobe Encore would
be able to do it, but I haven't tried it, and I haven't heard
too very much about it. (It is only the first version, though.)
So it looks like duplicate movies then.

some colour correction was applied, but not enough to be that noticable...

thing is it also happens on non affected files...

i THINK it may be because the clip i was looking at was converted to MPG2, then reconverted back to avi... but ive done that before and have ever seen this...

Is it only a certain color? Red for example is difficult in DV. Coming
from MPEG2 and going to DV definitely can introduce such
problems, depending on bitrate and encoder/decoder quality.

Again, a screenshot or sample might help in identifying the
problem.

You might want to check http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/home1.htm (go to the Sony Vegas Tutorials section). They have a long list of user-rated vegas automation scripts, plugins and tutorials.

I have not searched it for a "camera shake" script, but if there's a place to find one, that's it. Or, you might suggest writing such a script to one of the gurus there.

You need to register (free) in order to access the knowledge base.

Also, I just realized -- it would be nice if the shake could be "scripted", i.e. sync-ed with events happening in the video. Mentioning war videos, this would be explosions, running, etc.

Of course, in your case (motion graphics), you'd need a simple randomizer with some adjustments to avoid recogniable patterns in the behavior.

Do you have the camera in VCR mode? What OS are you running?
If it is XP, does a windows pop up when you connect your camera
and turn it on?

Might be that the firewire port on the TRV-8 is broken?
