How to position/place text media?

I am currently experimentating with narrowcasting. I have created a .PSD file on which I want to place text in Vegas with the title of the movie that is playing. However, when the length of the text changes the positioning also changes and I can't find any logic in how Vegas does this. I just want to position the text a certain amount from the left border of the X axis but somehow these values are not absolute but relative or something as I need to correct the settings everytime. Is there another way to position text?

Use the "Align left" option on the Positioning tab. Then you can fine-tune the positioning via Pan/Crop or Track Motion.

I do not understand what you are trying to say. I add text media. Then you have the placement tab. The type is set to free form. Then you have an X and Y axis value. When I type HELLO for example... and in another video I want to change that to WELCOME EVERYONE.... everything moves and I have to reposition the text over and over again. Why can't Vegas just move the additional characters to the right so the left starting positions remains?

You also mentioned the pan/event crop. How does that come into play?

There's the problem. You don't want "Free form". Instead, pick one of the "left justified" options. Yes, it will end up in the wrong place. But then you can use Pan/Crop or Track Motion to do the actual positioning.
