the Sony Vegas *Movie Studio* DVD contains lots of basic references.
Given that one costs $129.00 and the other costs $599.00, there is definitely an expected level of knowledge that comes with the various products. While Absolute Training is fairly basic, it doesn't cover the really simple terms that most folks using a higher end software would know. The Movie Studio product does indeed cover those terms.
I/we appreciate hearing your input, however. What is challenging is that we also receive emails from people suggesting that Volumes 1-3 are *too basic.* It's very tough to draw that line. We don't discuss four point edits, rolling edits, nor multi-layer compositing in the Vegas Movie Studio product, but I'm not sure what basic terms are not explained in the Absolute series. I'd appreciate specific feedback on that aspect in the form of PM's, please?

Douglas, what "Movie Studio DVD are you refering to? The only one I know is the Absolute Training DVD and the Complete Training for Vegas 7.

I am currently set on purchasing Sony Vegas 7.0 Soundforge 8 with the 3 VASST videos from Videoguy's.com (http://www.videoguys.com/vegasvideo.html) But was not sure if that would be the best deal since Sound Forge 9 is out.

Well, considering he is part authoer and I believe an owner of VASST, that's probably like asking Bill Gates what he thinks of the iPod. :)

That deal Video Guys is offering is pretty darn good and I believe if you enter a coupon code from here (Is it "dvinfo" ??) you get an extra 5% off. Getting SoundForge 8 is probably all you'd ever need (I don't own either) but I'm sure the upgrade from 8 to 9 would be quite reasonable if you wanted to go ahead and do that.

I started to watch the Absolute Series again tonight starting with Disk 3 which is their version on DVD Architect. Douglas starts it out and, of course, does a good job.

IMO the best way to learn vegas is to get your hands dirty on the Studio series first.
It has a "show me how" option which is by far the best training possible, as you are not required to sit through anything and the answers are given to you there and then.
Once understood, the vegas workflow is a natural process and elements of V7 will be understandable to you
Its how i taught my wife and its what i use for students and interns.
U dotn have to be a genius to work it out, but u also dont need to stop what ur doing during the learning phase
