Re: Is it possible to pull focus on a lens while crash zooming?

I'm not familiar with the particular lens you're using, but this statement - along with the sample you posted - makes it sound like your lens is a focus-by-wire type lens (ie everything is controlled...

Re: Shogun Flame occasionally stops recording

I'd say it sounds like a drive speed issue.

The Icon you're likely seeing is the "drive skipping" warning. It's a yellow triangle that looks like a road sign with a Kangaroo on it ("Skippy"......

Re: 120fps with D850, only 60p Atomos Ninja Flame

So I've just received our first unit from Nikon for testing and can confirm that the HDMI out does not do the full 100/120fps in slo-mo mode.

At first this really annoyed me, until I realised it...

Re: Canon 5D III and Atomos Ninja Flame

Bit late to the conversation, but just thought I'd ask the possibly-so-obvious-that-nobody-has-thought-of-it-yet question:

When recording with the Ninja Flame, did you start recording on the...

Re: 120fps with D850, only 60p Atomos Ninja Flame

It's listed on the Atomos website in the product specifications (under "Supported Codecs & playback":

https://www.atomos.com/ninja-flame

I wonder which cameras actually are capable of...

Re: 120fps with D850, only 60p Atomos Ninja Flame

That's a very strange thing for Atomos to say; I mean, why would they include 1080p120 on their HDMI recorders and then claim that HDMI is incapable of doing this?

Newer version's of HDMI should...

Re: 120fps with D850, only 60p Atomos Ninja Flame

I've been looking to get confirmation on this for ages as I've got a shoot coming up where sponsor obligations are forcing me to shoot on a D850 - and I really don't want to be stuck with 8bit h.264...

Re: Handling data backups in the field

I'm not sure I understand how backing up in the field is a solution to the problem. If it's card failure you're worried about, it doesn't matter if you're backing up in the field or at home - the...

Re: Looking to go HD and Upgrade from the XL1S

I'd recommend you avoid any tape-based cameras as they are more prone to degradation in older models. But the good news is there's plenty of 2nd hand 1/3" type camcorders around dirt cheap - look...

Re: Looking to go HD and Upgrade from the XL1S

This is incorrect. The crop factor is the same regardless of the lens format. A FF lens and a s35/APS-C lens, both set to 24mm, with have the exact same FOV when used on the same camera.

Re: Anyone out there have a D850???

Anybody know if the D850's HDMI output can do 120p HD? Or is the HDMI limited to 60p?

There's a few different ways.

a) In your preferences:

Edit > Preferences > Audio > Default Audio Tracks
In the drop-down box for STEREO MEDIA, select "Mono"

The problem with this method...

Re: Heavily considering the C200 - Warranty?

Personally I'm not a fan of extended warranty plans.

The manufacturer warranty is important in case the camera is faulty or QC is poor & things need fixing from the get-go, but beyond that you're...

Re: Sharp announces 8C-B60A 8K Professional Camcorder

Yeah I don't think this is exactly targeted at owner operators! It's not hard to figure out that this camera is a direct response to Japan's promise to broadcast the 2020 Olympics in 8K.

Re: Drone striking Southwest Airlines 737 -- how it was faked

I'm a film-maker.

If I didn't believe everything in our world explodes on impact then I wouldn't be able to do my job.

Re: Drone striking Southwest Airlines 737 -- how it was faked

Not to mention what can go wrong with a lithium-ion battery. They don't even let those into your checked baggage due to their possible explosive nature. I definitely don't think you want a...

Haha nice.

I'm actually in the process of writing a more general "iPhone Videography for dummies". It's 482 pages but every page just has the exact same text: "Hold your phone horizontally"

I...

Re: "Hi! I'm Uncle Bob and I'll be using my iPhone..."

I've got to say I'm surprised at how lax these laws seem to be. If I'm reading this correctly it seems as though it is perfectly legal for a 55 pound drone (ie something big enough to carry a Red or...

Re: Successfully Found Great Travel Combo

You probably wouldn't have missed the CPL there too much - you're often panning through nearly 180 degrees to track a surfer for a full ride, and the Polariser tends to give some weird effects in the...

Re: Beginner Run and Gun Kit

Unfortunately advertisements and reality are often very different! This is a photo tripod and the requirements of a "fluid panhead" for photography are very different to a proper fluid video head.

Re: Beginner Run and Gun Kit

If you buy all of that, my guess is the first thing you'll replace (and it won't take long) is the tripod.

I just did a quick search on B & H and it looks like the tripod you've selected is a...

Re: C200 or 5D mkvi with C-Log to complement C100 mkii

Yes the external recording options on the C200 don't do much to expand its capabilities unfortunately!

Not sure I'd purchase a DSLR for video at all these days given all the other options...

Re: C200 or 5D mkvi with C-Log to complement C100 mkii

No camera is "future proof" these days. Buy what you need now because by the time your needs change (eg you start delivering in 4K) there will be better cameras available at lower prices.

C200...
