File name wrong in Premiere

I have been trying to save an archive of my project using Project Manager but keep getting an error saying cannot find a file. But searching the location of those files on my hard disc reveals that file name does not exist. The clip name I think it is referring to (which is very similar) is correct since when I try 'reveal in finder' it locates it instantly. After much head scratching and turning on more info in the file browser window, I noticed that the file name in Premiere is different and yes, it was the problem file it couldn't find (there are others which I assume Project Manager hadn't got to yet before it aborted).

The problem arose I think due to my own error by having file names with an illegal character but i did change all these physical file names and the clip names in Premiere to match and relinked, and project itself works fine. But that original physical file name seems to have 'stuck' in Premiere.

So the problem is Premiere has several names for files that don't exist. How do I get Premiere to change the file name to match the actual physical file name? These are not alterable in Premiere and I tried off-lining and relinking but it changes nothing.

Cheers!

Re: File name wrong in Premiere

I think I have solved the problem though the solution is a little tedious - rename the offending files on the computer and then replace the clips in Premiere. In fact if you select a clip then 'reveal in finder' then change the name in Finder in the folder that opens, Premiere immediately prompts you to find the now missing clip so you can relink straight away.

I am wondering if the forward slash in the clip names is as much as problem as the colon in the file name in Premiere. Got rid of both anyway.

One issue remains which I'm not sure matters: having got the correct files names now logged in Premiere, I changed the clip names too to match (which didn't change automatically) but the clip names in the Timeline did not change (and still have the forward slash). I wonder if Project Manager might have a problem with that? I find it odd that Timeline clip names, file clip and file name can all be different in Premiere - seems a recipe for problems down the line ...

And if you have followed all this, I am impressed!
