Sennheiser ME66/K6 TO SD 442 to XL2

Greetings:

I am having an issue with distortion.
Current setup:

Sennheiser ME66/K6 phantom powered at 12 volts from sound devices 442
balanced xlr into sd 442
sd 442 input for input #1 set to phantom, mic input, 48 volts, unity 0 , gain 22, master at 0, I have set tone for the xl2 at 2db, sd meter shows 0.

Audio input on xl2 is set at ch1 and ch2 manual when I sent a tone to the camera I set the xl2 audio meter to 2db with channel one knob adjusting the audio levels.

When I listen to the headphone return on "a" which is the headphone output from the xl2 it sounds distorted but when I listen to the headphone strait from the sd 442 it sounds very clear.

Am I doing something wrong ?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help on this setup.

no default settings have been changed on my 442.

Sincerely ,

Ty Chu

Set the tone level on the XL2 to -12 (or -20) then turn on the SD 442's Limiter and adjust it to kick in at the +8 range.

Make sure that the XL2 is set to the appropriate input level -- "Line Level".

Then take a listen.
