Who owns a Videomic AND ME64? at DVinfo.net

I have a videomic and want to know how much an improvement the ME64 would be over that as an on camera mic for documentary stuff, filming people in different environments and dialogue. The ME64 is quite expensive as a single mic, so I want to hear first hand experiences before committing. Thanks as always.

Just my 2cents. I own the Videomic and the Rode NTG2 and I do documentary work, interviews etc. And if money is a consideration I would trust the videomic, it has given me very good result and I would have no hesitation to use it with my Canon A1 in interview situation.
So , yes the NTG2 and the Senn are better but the Videomic can deliver and is a very fine product.
I also use the Senn G2 Lav for interview and it works fine.

I haven't spent a lot of time with the Videomic, but from what I could hear it sounds more natural than the ME64. The advantage of the ME64 is that its a very hot mic, and there's something about it that really seems to grab voices out of the muck. It's hard to explain. I suppose its the presence peak or something. We have one permanently mounted on our XL2 and I'm always amazed at how much it picks up. Very good rejection from the rear as well.

One of the first things to decline in the hearing of older folks is the ability to discern conversation in the presence of background noise, even though they can still detect quiet sounds about as well as they always could. And that's because their ears are getting weak on the high frequency content of consonant sounds. So it's plausible that the peaks in the ME64 response could have an effect opposite to that of old ears.
