sound advice for narrative

anybody know best way to emulate voices through a thin room wall? and a telephone voice?

In Vegas its easy.

Click the audio fx, then track EQ.

Click preset... and make your choice. Telephone is there.. Its simply 15db gain at 928Khz, while all before and after are at a gain of minus infinity. (A notch filter at 1Khz)

Thin walls would be to knock off the treble above 2Khz... play with it and see, er, listen.

I dont know about other NLEs... anyone?

The best, most realistic way is to use a Convolution plug-in with an impulse sample. Essentially the impulse sample records the acoustical characteristics of a room or electronic device. There are some free plug-ins available.
For the PC there is SIR - SIR: SIR1
For Mac Tconvolution - Tconvolution v0.51 for Macintosh OS X

Then you have to find impulse samples that match what you're trying to emulate. There are sources for free impulse samples on the web. Here is a good directory of sources:
