No guide today. With any luck it will be here tomorrow.

Will Robertson April 22nd, 2005 12:49 PM

Already been asked. Hes worried of theft, its not going to happen.

Kevin Richard April 22nd, 2005 05:11 PM

Yeah, cause it would be impossible for any customer to just pdf the document themselves *rolleyes*

Dana Jan April 22nd, 2005 06:11 PM

No guide for me today. Order status for ALL paid customers and/or a shipping notification via email is really in order here. Especially since I paid for my guide on Feb. 25th. After 2 months I'd like to know where my guide is.

Imran Zaidi April 22nd, 2005 07:45 PM

Well it's not like anyone can't rip a DVD, but distributors still put copyright encoding on them. We all have to do what little we can to make it that little bit tougher for those who don't respect original works, because that little bit can easily cut out most people who won't bother going the extra step.

Let's all respect James' desire to not do PDFs and leave it at that.

Mark Kubat April 23rd, 2005 09:51 AM

I thought this would be helpful...

I offered this as a solution in light of some recent posts (I think Cory?) that suggested there were a lot of changes made to micro35 design in recent weeks AFTER the guides had been printed. It was suggested that Guide owners would have to log in to a website to get some sort of "update" to their guide...

James Hurd April 23rd, 2005 10:39 AM

Dana,
Your guide like everyone elses as of last Monday is on the way. An email launching the new site and directions for guide customers will be sent out this week.

***Updated***
I wanted everyone to know what the shipping schedule was over the last two weeks.

Shipment 1 - April 14th, USPS
Shipment 2 - April 18th, USPS
Shipment 3 - April 20th, USPS

All international orders were shipped 'USPS International Air'

I won't go into how many guides were shipped, but seeing the shipment schedule should give you a good indication that it wasn't a 'few'. We should have plenty of input on the building process once this 'Global Build' starts! ;)

Thanks everyone and sorry for the delay!

Thanks!

Thank you James,
I appreciate you sharing that information with me and the rest of the guide buyers who are all anxiously awaiting your plans so that we can build these amazing devices.

Brett A. Noe April 23rd, 2005 12:29 PM

James,

At what postal rate were these sent? That would give us a better idea of when to expect them.

I ordered mine on Jan. 24. As of tomorrow, it will 3 months since ordering and a week less than that since the original ship date of February 1st. I think it's understandable that everyone who preordered is getting a bit touchy about when they are arriving.

Thanks,

Brett

Mark Kubat April 23rd, 2005 01:40 PM

James, know you're being bombarded...

Is the printed guide being revised to reflect latest changes? What is the "upgrade path" if you order a printed guide and there end up being some key revisions due to enhancements/improvements?

Just curious if it somehow makes sense to WAIT a little longer before ordering a guide - ie. will things be "finalized" soon for kit and full-rig release?

Hope my question makes sense?

thanks for your hard work...

Mark

Also, are all parts for building your own micro35 now "shipping?" Ie. if I get my guide ordered and it comes say Monday - is there anything to stop me from ordering a part or two that prevents complete assembly of the micro35 after a day or two? I guess I'm wondering if there are any "bottlenecks" left now that the guide is shipping?

Hope this question is helpful...

thanks!

Daniel Skubal April 23rd, 2005 02:35 PM

No guide today :(

Let's pray for monday.

Brian Valente April 24th, 2005 05:52 PM

Mark - I am still mystified as to why anyone thinks the guides are out of date.... Do you have some reason to believe this? All that I've seen from posts is that certain parts' manufacturing process or materials have been improved, but the design has not changed. Maybe I am missing something here....

Brian Valente April 24th, 2005 05:55 PM

Mark - let's defer this conversation about guide updates to the other forum. Again, I have not seen nor heard anything that suggests the guides are out of date...

Mark Kubat April 24th, 2005 06:53 PM

Cory suggested this?

I think Cody alluded to this, Brian?

I think he suggests in one of the posts that a number of changes were introduced by James AFTER the Guides went to print, hence his speculation that there would some sort of email update?

I HOPE the Guides don't change too much - ie. I hope the printed Guide will remain a "de facto" guide for making the Micro 35!

Just interpreting what was posted by someone else!

from Cody Dullock:

"Yes it will give you the name of businesses where you can purchase every part for the micro35... i believe the GG you have to get from james, but im not 100% sure on that. i know james is setting up some deals with places to sell the rail systems as well. The achromat used for the micro35 will be available online im pretty sure. Keep in mind alot of stuff was improved with the micro35 after the guide was printed, so there will be some type of members area on their website where you can get the rest of the information that was not able to be printed im pretty sure."

Brian, I take it that when Cody suggests "a lot of stuff was improved" after "guide was printed" that includes design considerations?

James could weigh in on this, I guess... I suppose he might know a thing or two about it? *wink wink*

Brian - direct question for you - have you received your Guide?

Mark

Daniel Skubal April 24th, 2005 08:32 PM

They'd better come tomorrow or riots may break out. :)

Cody Dulock April 24th, 2005 08:49 PM

you guys are so ancy to get this guide you're going to poo yourself when you finally see how simple and effective the design is! I've seen dryland, its not a myth! Compared to my homemade mini35 that i made with info gathered from the 4 million posts on this site, the micro35 is like a gajillion times better... a better analogy would be comparing in terms of a camera i guess-the cheapest 1ccd camera to the nicer 3ccd camera, yet the price is still about the same. i was just suggesting that there were changes to make the build a little easier from what i heard... but nothing to keep you from building it by all means. sorry to direct your thoughts in the wrong directions guys. I know this seems like that xmas gift that couldnt come any sooner, but hold on guys... its totally worth the wait.

Thats just my .02 cents...

Kyle Edwards April 24th, 2005 08:51 PM

The guides were supposely sent to the press about a month or more before James said the product was finally done and working on X model. So I'm pretty sure there already are or will be updates available very soon for certain models.

Brian Valente April 24th, 2005 09:42 PM

Mark - direct answer: no, I have not received my guide yet.

Mark Kubat April 24th, 2005 10:41 PM

thanks, Brian...

Thanks, Brian! It just seemed from some of your posts of late that you seemed quite certain about status of certain things - I remember Daniel Skubal wondering too if you had received your guide since you had mentioned "expediting" with a written email to James - so again, I thought maybe you had rec'd your guide...

Okay, so we're all in the same boat here...

thanks!

Mark Kubat April 24th, 2005 10:44 PM

So, Cody, you have an inside track on the micro 35?

I know Larry McKee shot the Ancient stuff and there was a guy Ryan who posted a bit saying he was working with James and had some impressive micro35 footage...

Cody, you too are part of the micro35 team? You sound quite informed on the status of developments and other things... anything else you can tell us?

Brian Valente April 24th, 2005 11:12 PM

Mark - I checked with james. He tells me very little has changed between the guide's production and the current status, other than changing out one part. James assures me the guide is still completely relevant.

I hope that helps answer your concerns

Cheers

Mark Kubat April 24th, 2005 11:57 PM

thanks Brian, thanks James...

Thanks Brian, good to know!

Thanks James!

Cheers!

Daniel Skubal April 25th, 2005 07:38 AM

Obin Olson April 25th, 2005 08:18 AM

Daniel - when you receive your guide, will you leave any more posts?! :)

James Hurd April 25th, 2005 09:19 AM

Daniel,
The guide doesn't go into the macro or the rods. This information will be made available in the member's section of the forum.

Ahaha yeah, I just got a voicemail saying it arrived at my house. I won't be able to look at it for another 4 hours (I'm in class right now), but at least it's in my posession :) hahaha

How does the guide look? Fairly easy assembly?

ahh, well as long as we will have access to building them, then I'm happy :)

Daniel Skubal April 25th, 2005 01:38 PM

James, I've gotta hand it to you. These past few months (especially these last few weeks) must have been hell for you. It sounds like the demand for this product skyrocketed. Your inbox must have been flooded with repeated questions, pleas for the guide and death threats. haha

Even though they're a little late, I've got to thank you for the work that you put into this system for all of us. If this is as good as people are saying, then you're going to be making a mighty fine profit from this and any other products that you develop.

Do you have a target date for the preassembled unit? That box/rail system and adapter looked so nice.

Couple of Quick Questions

Hi. This is my first time really posting a question here in the micro35 area. No offense to you at all James, but i was just waiting to order my guide until people started getting theirs. I was just wondering if I order the guide, how soon it would ship? Are you still sending out preorders or are you caught up enough to send out new orders? Also with the purchase of the guide, there will be access to the members forum on the site with info about rails and other stuff right? One last question... I might be getting 2-3 cameras for a shoot in the next year. If I wanted to build a micro35 for each of the cameras would i be able to order the gg for the other cameras or would i have to purchase more guides just for the glass? Thanks and keep up the good work.

James Hurd April 25th, 2005 02:37 PM

Hey Keith!
Welcome to the Project!

All guide orders received of last week have been shipped. The shipment schedule will be every Friday. Order a guide today and it will ship this Friday.

As a guide owner/purchaser, you will have access to the member's section of the micro35 forum. This section will include information on any new updates including directions on building the rods and macro assemblies.

The gg will be sold on the new website.

Hope this helps and good luck with your shoot!

It's Alive!

The time is now 1:45 PST, I am opening the cellophane wrapping that surrounds the guide that just arrived in the mail. Happy trails and looking forward to everyone sharing the knowledge and experience of building them!

Rochester, NY... Guide Received... Although I don't see were the parts and suppliers can be found...? The book says "A complete list of parts and suppliers can be found in appendix A at the back of this manual" looking at the back at appendix A Only shows the "drawings" not the suppliers... NOW WHAT…. Am I overlooking something? JAMES... HELLO

Matthew Wauhkonen April 25th, 2005 03:05 PM

If I order now, do I get the free GG? Also, if I give up and decide to buy a pre-built unit, do you deduct the cost of the guide from the price (I thought I read somewhere that you said you would, but this is probably wishful thinking.)

Keith Kline April 25th, 2005 03:05 PM

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply James. I'm gonna try to order a guide this week hopefully, but we'll see. Just out of curiosity how long do you think it'll be more the members forums with the macro/rail info and such will be up and running? Thanks again!!
