Dan Holly July 25th, 2003, 10:48 AM Almost 41 and a son who's older than Alex (18 getting ready to go to college....yay). Still have hair (OK some, but more than enough to not contemplate a potential comb over) Been in the business (err side business) officially for 5 years. Steve Withers August 9th, 2003, 04:16 PM 16 here =) Robbie Smolinsky August 9th, 2003, 06:56 PM I've been part of the world population for 23 years now. Though I'm told I have the personality of a 12 year old and the inner thoughts of a wise old man; to sum it up, I'm an idiot at 23 but I can hide it when necessary. Robbie Takeshi Fukushima August 10th, 2003, 08:19 AM 28 years old here. I'm surprised at the diversity of ages here. Wow. I still have much to experience. but mann the younger folks are fortunate to find their way in such an early age. Takeshi Steven Digges August 11th, 2003, 05:43 PM 43 - my first sign of a loss in creativity is that I can't come up with a clever signature for this board. My favorite here is the one that says “If it was easy they would ask there relatives to do it”. Ken Tanaka August 11th, 2003, 06:11 PM is just about 33. The median is 28. Alan Tran August 11th, 2003, 06:11 PM in my prime...18 :) Robert Knecht Schmidt August 11th, 2003, 06:16 PM The most telling number will be the standard deviation--especially if it's more than ten years. This will mean we've created a truly age-diverse community. Ken Tanaka August 11th, 2003, 06:23 PM The standard deviation is 13.4. Tony Hills August 12th, 2003, 04:06 AM Ken Can I skew your results slightly! I'm 59, shortly to be 60 (horror of horrors) and have just shot my first wedding video with a three camera set up. This forum has taught me an immense amount which I am able to put into the editing. Well done! Tony Takeshi Fukushima August 12th, 2003, 05:10 AM Wow, you are not THE Tony Hill are you? (writing 'Hills' could just be a camoflage tactic...) I have to say I love the works, and I have to say, I have borrowed some ideas. Takeshi Tony Hills August 12th, 2003, 05:21 AM Hi Takeshi Sorry to disappoint you but the 's' in Hills is genuine! Are you confusing me with the Tony Hill who has a video website in the USA? Tony Jeff Donald August 12th, 2003, 05:30 AM Tony, you look much younger on tape. Christine Noguere August 13th, 2003, 08:14 AM Had to jump in on this - I admit to ...50 - but I like to stretch, kick, and stretch! (You have to watch Saturday Night Live to understand that one.) Filming since 1971, switched to DV when my 16mm equipment and all my films burned last year. Great forum, glad to see a few people older than I am here! Christine Jeff Natalie August 15th, 2003, 03:54 AM Just turned 35 on Aug 13. I think I'm still 28. Kris Kalapala August 15th, 2003, 03:46 PM I'll be 29 on 8th September. Daniel Whelan August 15th, 2003, 11:06 PM Well, I'm a newcomer here, and pretty new to video and film as well (have some basic experience in videography and AB roll editing). Anyway, I'm ready to learn some new stuff, and much prefer DV to VHS and Final Cut Pro to an old AB roll edit deck, so it looks like I came to the right place! Anyway, it looked like the young crowd was taking a beating from the old-timers, so I'll throw in my age at 21. :-) Daniel Takeshi Fukushima August 16th, 2003, 10:59 PM Kris, I'll be 29 in September 10th. Pretty close aye? Takeshi FUkushima Ken Tanaka August 17th, 2003, 12:12 AM Average age: 33.68 Median age: 29.5 Standard deviation: 13.34 Quite a diverse community! Robert Knecht Schmidt August 17th, 2003, 01:25 AM Well, of course, this being a voluntary poll and not a randomized sampling of the population, we don't exactly have a scientifically accurate survey. But it'll do... Even if DVInfo.net (and videography in general) attracts all ages, I think the community is highly skewed toward the male persuasion. Just judging from the member names, I'd say there's about a 50:1 male/female ratio... Ken Tanaka August 17th, 2003, 01:50 AM We have many more active female members today than we did, say, a year ago. But, indeed, the active membership is overwhelmingly male. I believe that the reason is simple: the forums and subjects here are gadget/techie-oriented and do not appeal to many women. Jeff Donald August 17th, 2003, 07:23 AM I've noticed this in the classes I teach. The are split fairly equally, male/female. However, when the class discussion turns to equipment the women tend to participate less. Discussions about composition, form, lighting etc. have good participation from both sexes, but the women's questions tend to be more probing and inquisitive. The men ask more bluntly, How do I achieve this look or effect? Women tend to want to know the why's and how's. I've had several classes that were all female. Let me tell you, what a challenge. Maintaining control is very difficult. It’s much easier to digress and get off subject. I end up teaching something entirely different than my lesson. Ross Milligan August 30th, 2003, 04:28 AM This has been fun.... I sort of had a mental picture of the contributors I like to read the most - Dylan, Rob, Ken and Jeff. I was in the ball park with Ken & Jeff but Dylan & Rob are just bairns :-) Ross 46 - working since 1977 Dylan Couper August 30th, 2003, 09:10 AM <<<-- Originally posted by Ross Milligan : This has been fun.... Joints ache, bones hurt, can't remember... uh... stuff. :) Roze Ann September 8th, 2003, 09:51 PM Got married 4 years ago to a man 12 years my junior (any good 'cradle robber' jokes?), had a baby almost 2 years ago, will be 42 in January (constantly mistaken for late 20's. You tell me... "http://fatcatmedia.biz/aboutus" ..on the left). Come on.... be brave... post photos!!! Numbers don't matter it's what's between the ears... Life is gets STARTED at 40 for all you yunguns' out there. Go William! Jeff! and the over 40 gang :-) Hey Ken... about the "techy" comment...I think you are right. Most gals don't seem too interested. But for those of us who grew up in a house full of engineers... man tech info is GREAT! I'd much rather read a spec sheet or wiring diagram than a novel. Gadgets are THE BOMB. (I love powertools and john boats too.) Dan Tolbertson September 8th, 2003, 11:21 PM I Am 38 I think. John Hudson September 9th, 2003, 12:01 PM 33 Rob Lohman September 9th, 2003, 12:40 PM I don't know which Rob you mean, Ross, but is "bairns" a good thing? Paul Tauger September 9th, 2003, 12:49 PM Just turned 50. (I'm older than I ever thought I'd be). Kat Eiswald September 14th, 2003, 08:56 PM But I was born in the "summer of love" and graduated from high school in a very "Orwellian" time. that would be old enough to know better. Ken Tanaka September 14th, 2003, 09:47 PM 34.11 Average 31.5 Median 13.03 Std Dev Darrell Hinton September 14th, 2003, 10:04 PM I'm 20. I just wanted to say this is an extremely helpful site, especially for us younger and less experienced people. I have learned a great deal of information that would've taken a whole lot of learning from mistakes and messing with settings thanks to this forum. Thanks again to whoever was involved in creating these forums. Rob Wilson September 14th, 2003, 11:34 PM Time to bump up that avg a bit: 46 Norm Couture September 16th, 2003, 08:57 AM Let me help pushing that average a little higher: I'm 49 1/2. Curious fact: the hair I used to have on top is starting to use shortcuts down through my nose and ears... Christopher C. Murphy September 17th, 2003, 02:25 PM 31 years old, but i feel like i'm just getting started with things i love to do! Robert Poulton September 17th, 2003, 02:57 PM I am 27 and still kickin'. Rob Jean-Philippe Archibald September 21st, 2003, 07:38 PM I'm 24. I am new to this community and new to video too! I just got an XL1 and this site helped me to learn lot of things much more quickly than I could have expected! Thank you very much guys! Steve Nunez September 22nd, 2003, 02:44 PM 35 years old.....but 55 years old in NYC years! Dale Anthony Smith September 24th, 2003, 01:56 AM Born in 1950 - Went through the "60s" and college in the "student unrest era". Have been shooting and editing professionally since the mid '70s. Grad film school in the late 70s. Independent since 1980. Excited by new gear and still remember "control track linear editing" and flatbed 16mm editing. One thing remains the same. Content is King... it's all about storytelling... communication... I've become more pragmatic... the older you get... the less time you have to waste. Mike Zorger September 24th, 2003, 01:10 PM i'm 22 and have produced 3 skateboarding videos. Is that good for my age? They had write up in magazines and stuff. Matt Stahley September 24th, 2003, 02:13 PM Mike I would say thats good for any age! I remember making some skate videos (non-pro) with my friends in the early 90s with a nice full size Quasar VHS camcorder and 2 VCRs.I wish there were still some decent skaters around my town but basically its all groms now. Mike Zorger September 25th, 2003, 05:26 AM how far do you live from Philly?? Matt Stahley September 25th, 2003, 02:24 PM Im 3 hours from philly. Basically south central PA 20 min SE of Gettysburg.
