"I'll believe it when I see it."

Oh ye of little faith.

I guess every group needs it's doubting Thomas.
:)

(of course if there actually is no announcement I'll come back and delete this post)

<---I guess every group needs it's doubting Thomas.--->

Or a doubting Nick for that matter.

With the XL2 announcement so close, this thread is kinda dead by comparison.

Well, I hope you're going to DV Expo, or you won't believe it until September.

If the camera isn't HDV or HD, then it's no big deal to me. After all, if it isn't HDV/HD, what more could it offer over the DVX100A except for maybe interchangebale lenses, and a better 16:9 @ 24p. It's definately not gonna be some kind of SDX900 killer for 5 grand, as some people are alluding to. But hey, I could be wrong, and I hope so!

"After all, if it isn't HDV/HD, what more could it offer over the DVX100A except for maybe interchangebale lenses, and a better 16:9 @ 24p"

That's exactly what it could offer, and doing so would make it the first DV camera without technical shortcomings.

It seems like it's always something.
DVX is fantastic, it has progressive, but a fixed lens.
XL1s is fantastic, it has interchangable lenses, but no progressive.
The PDX10 is also good, best 16x9 for the money, but 1/4" chips.

For once we may see one DV camera with all the options users have been asking for in one camera.

I for one hope that it's exactly what you mentioned, a DVX with interchangable lenses and true 16x9. I don't expect much more, and anything on top of that is just gravy.

Looks like Panasonic maybe bracing itself for an XL2 assault. They're giving away free Magic Bullet software with the DVX100A.

"What about Canon?_ Yes, what about Canon… For the last three years Canon has not invited this guy to a one on one unless it was to talk about their 3D lens (and we all know what a success that was)._ This year they made a request for a meeting._ Could Canon be ready to unveil something so great it will put the other camera manufacturers to shame?_ Could they be ready to release the XL2 – the camera rumored to be in production for several years?_ Could this camera provide native 16:9, HDV, and 24p all in one?_ Could they finally be releasing a camera that has XLR audio inputs instead of the inferior mini connection? Could I ask more questions in a single paragraph?_ Guess we’ll both have to wait for those answers."

Except, of course, that it will be DV.

You know Nick, as soon as I had finished posting, I knew someone was going to nail me on that.
:)

Good point.

Should we nail the lid on this coffin? Because this topic is officially dead... the XL2 has been announced (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28840).

Yup. This thread goes into the museum case!

Pictures, please.

No pictures just yet... there's a big press hoo-ha at DV Expo this morning; those folks get to be the first to see it, and then the embargo is lifted. Expect photos -- and more -- afterwards. Should we lock up this thing? There's an entire XL2 forum now (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=73), you know!

Hey, I found an early picture of the new XL2 (http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ViewPhotos?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=68668&surfModel=AG-DVX100A&LargerPhoto=1)!

LOL! (Though I bet Panasonic isn't.)

Remarkable, Ken! According to the press release specs, it actually looks just like that on the inside!

What? No more video chainsaw? No clown color-pattern? The XL2 looks just like a normal camcorder?

On the inside it seems to look like a DVX. I didn't say anything about the outside!

Chris, someone has noted elsewhere that a pic is up on the Canon Japan site. I wouldn't even dream of buying it, but it looks really good...don't see how anyone could possibly complain about dvinfo providing a link to the pic in those circumstances - or no?

Ken, I was completely fooled by your picture of the "new XL2", aka DVX100.

Before I posted my response, I didn't even bother to scroll down and see the label that identified the picture. I suppose then, that the "chainsaw" profile is perpetuated in the XL2.

Luis/Josh,

Jackass and 28 days both were made by established individuals. As for the not telling things apart, that's becasue both Hi8 and mini DV blown up look the same . . . like ass . . . LOLOLOLOL

Just bustin on ya.

The new XL2 looks very, very interesting for mini DV. The specs appear to be quite an improvement over it's predecessor. Unfortunately, at this moment I can't muster myself to say "wow" and really mean it.

I guess I shouldn't have expected HD or HDV. The wiser ones on this forum warned that Canon most likely wouldn't be releasing such a beast at this time. I know that Canon is moving in what they believe is the right direction for them.

It's not that I won't be supporting or purchasing this little gem, but reluctantly, I'll have to go back and reconsider the expensive Panasonic Varicam HD lineup for true HD production.

My comments are not meant as a downer on a fabulous and historical release date for XL* fans, but only to reflect that HD is here to stay. A neutral sigh commeth from our production staff that Canon won't be serving HD or HDV on it's menu this time around.

Patricia, I guess you're right -- so I'm offering not only pictures, but a complete XL2 site...

Check out The XL2 Watchdog (http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxl2/index.php).

Hey you guys, take all this conversation to the XL2 forum! This is a dead topic and it ain't exactly "area 51" material any more!

Well, sucks that it isn't HD/HDV, but is instead a beefed up DVX100A with Interchangeable lenses, which ain't bad at all ;). Well, I hope you all have enjoyed the thread, remember you heard it here first =D and hopefully a lot of us will enjoy our XL2's next month!

As for me, I'm off to Japan. See ya!
