NTSC Workflow Confusion from PAL User

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently working on my first NTSC film project. I've been trying to read up as much as possible, but I'm still slightly confused!

1. We are shooting at 24fps.
2. The footage is being telecined to DVCAM NTSC tapes at 23.98.
3. The post house is not providing us with FLEX logs, ALEs or anything like that - just the DVCAM tapes.
4. We are editing in Avid Media Composer 3.0.5.
5. After the offline, the film will be scanned and put to HDCAM SR 4:4:4 at 23.98fps.

So... given this... What Avid project setting should I use?

24p? 23.986? 30i?

Should I tick the "Film" or "Matchback" box?

What setting should I have in the "Film and 24P" settings?

Any information or assistance you can provide me would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

Things are so much easier down here in PAL land!

Thanks in advance...

Best Regards, Chris!

Chris,

Use 23.986. matchback, and the cadence/pulldown choice depends on your HD camera cadence. For example if it was recorded in 24pa then it would 2:3:3:2. Otherwide use video rate, no pulldown. The other choices, i would confer with your transfer house in going film out.

I hope this helps David

Thanks for your fast reply David!

Sorry, forgot to mention that we're shooting 35mm...
