All yours, Jon!

Jonathan Jones October 9th, 2009 10:46 PM

OK, here goes. Here's one from the late 90s. It'll be interesting to see if anyone can guess this one without cheating, or if they'll even admit to knowing the answer if they do.

Character 1: "It must be really hard for you [redacted], you know, try and decide whether to wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, OR the little Gucci dress.

Character 2: "Exactly."

Character 3: "I know! Why don't you wear the little Gucci dress?"

Character 2: "That's a good idea. Thanks,[redacted].

No guesses so far? I thought not. The quote as posted was taken verbatim from having watched the scene on the DVD as I typed it. I have the DVD. (Don't ask.)

But it doesn't fare quite the same if compared to the same quote as noted in a number of online quote resources where these lines contain a number of inaccuracies such as wrong words. That makes it more difficult to look this one up online to come up with the answer.

If you guess it correctly, however, then it demonstrates a familiarity with this movie. So, again, I am not surprised at having no guesses posed thus far.

If no one guesses by tomorrow, perhaps I'll post a clue in the morning...and perhaps thereafter just move on to another movie.

Jonathan Jones October 12th, 2009 07:08 PM

Okay, here goes another scene from the same movie:

character 1: "Check."

character 2: "What d'ya mean 'Check'?"

character 1: "I mean Check. My bishop's got your king."

character 2: "Where?"

character 1: "There. You either got to move in front, or move it out the way."

character 2: "Alright, then I'll move that fairground horse to there. Sort that out."

character 1: "You can't do that!"

character 2: "Says who?"

character 1: "Says Mister Chess. It's been in the rules for thousands of years!"

character 2: "Well I'm gonna break the rules and move this little fairground horse free amongst all these little square fields like that...there!"

character 1: "I'm gonna slap you in a minute."

I don't recognise the second quote but i think i know the first.....does the film have meatloaf driving a tour bus by any chance? you're not gonna make me say it out loud are you :)

Andy.

Yes...

and Yes.... because that's the rules, my friend.

lol (it was kind of mean of me to choose this one.)

Andy Graham October 13th, 2009 02:32 AM

its suddenly slipped my mind!.....right ok its spiceworld

moving swiftly on

character 1: What's this?
character 2: I burned myself.
character 1: You burned yourself? Why?
character 2: Practicing for hell.
character 1: Why do you think you're going to hell?
character 2: Because of what I did. Because of what I'm gonna do.
character 1: What are you going to do?
character 2: [mimes a gun to his head]
character 1: You're going to try to kill yourself? And how serious should I take this threat?

Andy Graham October 14th, 2009 08:20 AM

Ok here's another one from this movie.

"You know, the day I did it, I took two razorblades to the bathtub. You know why? Because I knew that once I started to bleed, I'd get weak. And I didn't wanna drop one blade and leave myself half done. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine hating your life so much that you'd wanna bring a backup razor?"

It sounds like a depressing movie i know but it is actually a very enjoyable thought provoking film, shot in 05 i think it fell by the wayside which is a shame.

Any takers?

Jonathan Jones October 14th, 2009 09:43 AM

I am pretty sure I've seen it but I can't exactly place it. So I'm going to pose my best guess (ie: the first one that popped into my head).

Is it "Constantine"?

-Jon

Andy Graham October 14th, 2009 11:14 AM

its a good guess but its not the one, i dont think it was as high profile as that.

Andy.

Sean Skube October 14th, 2009 11:16 AM

Is it "Wristcutters: A Love Story"? If so, that is a really bizarre coincidence, cause that is the movie I just put in my queue.

Andy Graham October 14th, 2009 01:07 PM

Afraid not Sean

Id never heard of wristcutters , i just watched the trailer on imdb and it looks pretty damn good, think i'll add that one to the queue myself.

Andy.

Andy Graham October 15th, 2009 08:29 AM

Its been a couple of days so i'll just tell ya and let someone else in.

It was "Stay" starring Ewan McGregor ,Ryan Gosling and Naomi watts.

you should give it a watch. Next quotes up for whoever wants it.

Andy.

Chris McMahon October 15th, 2009 01:14 PM

[ Note from Admin: rejected due to excessive profanity ]

Chris Hurd October 15th, 2009 01:35 PM

For Chris McMahon, you're welcome to submit another quote, but I thought it was pretty clear around here that we won't except profanity on the forum. Thanks in advance for respecting this policy, and please try again with something else (something cleaner). Best regards,

Bill Thesken October 15th, 2009 02:18 PM

"Attica! Attica!"

Bonus points for the name of the character.

Chris Hurd October 15th, 2009 02:21 PM

Hmm... Sonny, in Dog Day Afternoon?

Bill Thesken October 15th, 2009 02:35 PM

You got it Chris, I thought of that prison reference line from that movie due to McMahon's infraction.

I think Tony Manero also said that line in Saturday Night Fever.

Fire Away!

Bill Thesken October 25th, 2009 12:26 AM

Chris E-mailed me to take the next quote so here it is,
The first lines from a recent hit that I'm viewing on netflix:

Phone ringing.
"Nine One One Emergency."
(breathing hard into phone)
"I need an ambulance."
"I have you at ninety two twelve West third street, Los Angeles."
(Nods, close up, hand in face, phone at ear.)
"It's room number two."
"What's the emergency?"
"There's been a suicide."
"Who's the victim?"
"I am."

Dimitri De Keukelaere October 25th, 2009 12:33 PM

Seven pounds !!

Bill Thesken October 25th, 2009 01:09 PM

You got it Dimitri - Take it away!

Dimitri De Keukelaere October 25th, 2009 01:56 PM

here's a short one

"And when it's stopped being random, that's when it started to go wrong."

Daniel Bates November 8th, 2009 12:08 PM

I'm pretty sure I've never seen the movie, but could you give another hint for the benefit of those of us who have?

Lorinda Norton November 15th, 2009 12:57 AM

Hey Daniel,

Since Dimitri doesn't seem to be around why don't you go ahead with a quote? :)

Daniel Bates November 15th, 2009 09:01 PM

Your wish is my command!

Character 1: Why aren't you shooting?
Character 2: We're not being shot at yet.
Character 1: How can you tell?
Character 2: A hiss means it's close. A snap means...
(snap)
Character 2: Now they're shooting at us.

Lorinda Norton November 16th, 2009 11:21 PM

I've seen this movie! Now if I can remember which one it is...

Until it hits me or you provide another clue I'll go with a guess: The Outlaw Josey Wales?

Jonathan Jones November 16th, 2009 11:28 PM

I'm with you, Lorinda. It's bugging me that I can't figure it out, though I know I've seen it, and I think I even know the scene, but I can't see the faces or think of which movie it is in my head.

But I think it is something else. I gotta think on it some more.

-Jon

Matt Buys November 17th, 2009 11:56 AM

I was half-thinking Black Hawk Down.

Andy Graham November 17th, 2009 04:42 PM

based on the quote they obviously cant fire unless fired upon which suggests a more modern war like iraq or (as matt said) somalia so id agree with matt on that one.

Andy

Daniel Bates November 17th, 2009 05:23 PM

Matt got it first! It is indeed Black Hawk Down - one of my favourite books, and a pretty good movie too.

Lorinda Norton November 18th, 2009 12:40 AM

Oh wow. It's been way too long since I watched Black Hawk Down for me to have possibly remembered that quote. I must have been recalling something else.

Good job, Matt!

Matt Buys November 18th, 2009 08:55 AM

Oh sweet movie qoute game gods, I feel redeemed. Last time I posted I mistook a Shirley Maclaine line from the Apartment for a Bukowski line from Barfly. It hurt for months.

Blackhawk down is a great movie and I forgot it was based on a book. Makes for some good thanksgiving reading. Okay, I'll fire off with one of my favorite's.

"I too have dabbled in pacificism, not in 'Nam of course."

Chris McMahon November 27th, 2009 09:09 PM

Walter in Big Lebowski.

Matt Buys November 28th, 2009 07:11 AM

Dude, you got it.

Chris McMahon November 28th, 2009 10:47 AM

This oughtta be fairly easy...

Character 1: You married?
Character 2: Occasionally.

Scott Nelson November 28th, 2009 07:55 PM

Jurassic Park

Scott Nelson November 28th, 2009 08:04 PM

Father, if God has issues, they won't be with what I've done. They will be with what I'm about to do

Lorinda Norton November 29th, 2009 02:09 AM

Gran Torino?

David Mullen November 29th, 2009 06:32 PM

Angels and Demons.

Scott Nelson November 29th, 2009 07:05 PM

David you got it. Thought it would be a dead give away being it just came out. Epic Movie!
