Re: Hypderdeck Shuttle 2 Supports DNxHD

I have a question regarding DNxHD.

I´m confused by the matter that only 220 mbit DNxHD is used to encode the videostream.
When rendering a DNxHD File, the 220 mbit option is only available for the 1080i/59.94i format.

Just to be sure. Does that mean, everything coming from the SDI out of the camera, 1080p25, 1080p23.98, 1080i50 etc. etc. is stored to the 1080i/59.94i format or does it mean for example that 1080p23.98 which would normally render in 175 mbit is instead stored as 220 mbit and still in its original format?

Re: Hypderdeck Shuttle 2 Supports DNxHD

I have a question along the same lines but a bit more blunt.
If I got a Shuttle2 for use with my Sony Z5 with a 240gb SSD-
How much recording time do I get at 1080 25p?
Camera is HDV, but the shuttle would take the output as 1080p as long as I was in PSF mode, yeah?
How long does the in built battery last on a continuous record?
Would the speed of the SSD matter if you were not interested in uncompressed? Are my calcs right that even the slowest of the SSDs could handle the DNXHD?
Lots of questions, any input greatly appreciated.

Re: Hypderdeck Shuttle 2 Supports DNxHD

EDIT:-

This one should allow us to retain both audio channels.
ffmbc -y -i Capture0001V.mxf -i Capture0001A1.mxf -i Capture0001A1.mxf -vcodec copy -map_audio_channel 1:0:0:0:1 -map_audio_channel 2:0:0:0:1 -acodec pcm_s16le -ac 2 -f mov Capture0001.mov

But I only get a mono file. Any idea why ?

Jay, did you figure out how to rewrap the files and include the audio as well ?

The easiest way that I know of, as to how to do that is (at least for the Windows OS) to use ffmbc, the broadcast version of ffmpeg. The already compiled Windows binaries can be downloaded at:

ffmbc Windows binaries

Use the command line:

ffmbc -i filename.mxf -vcodec copy filename.mov

This will just rewrap the video and should be almost instantaneous.

Once you have a DNxHD MOV file, download & install the Avid QT codec:

Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 2.3.4 Download

This will allow pretty much any editing package that can use Quicktime to read the DNxHD MOV file. If anyone has a better workflow, let me know.

I responded to your PM, but it appears that you used the same audio MXF files for both channels. One is A1 and the other is A2.

Good to hear that. Also, there are a number of freeware GUIs that make it a lot easier to use ffmbc. Just Google "ffmpeg GUI" and take your pick. Most ffmpeg GUIs will also work with ffmbc.

Thanks for this, Jay and Anmol, works like a charm.
I had a project in MXF I needed to rewrap for editing in Premiere.
I owe a donation to Baptiste of FFMBC.

OK, to simplify my question: Does the shuttle record DNxHD in the same framerate that is coming through the HD-SDI?

Re: Hypderdeck Shuttle 2 Supports DNxHD

@Felix

Yes it does record in the same framerate as the SDI from your camera.
The 220mbs is nominal and would apply to 1080i60fps.
1080i50fps would be 185mbs and so on.

Rewrapping the mxf to mov...
This works but the audio is combined into stereo and not separate files. Does anyone know the command to keep the audio files on 2 separate channels?

This is the stereo command:

ffmbc -y -i Capture0001V.mxf -i Capture0001A1.mxf -i Capture0002A1.mxf -vcodec copy -map_audio_channel 1:0:0:0:1 -map_audio_channel 2:0:0:0:1 -acodec pcm_s16le -ac 2 -f mov Capture0001.mov
