has this ever happened before? meaning, news broke of a brand new product that DVI-er's haven't read about for months? is there an example of that? just looking at our track record that's all =D. it's been pretty good, no?

if it does 25f then Ill defo upgrade mine - HDMI and mic in are ncie to have for me rather than essential

Pieter Jongerius January 25th, 2007 05:42 PM

Circuit city has removed the page, probably on purpose... Google only managed to cache the category page, unfortunately:

http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache...l&ct=clnk&cd=1

You never know when Google erases it, so for those who haven't seen or can't see it anymore, it just says:
------------------------------------------
Canon HV20 High-Definition Camcorder
•MiniDV
•High-definition recording
•CMOS technology •10x optical zoom
•2.7" wdescreen LCD
•Digital stills
$1099.99
Coming soon
------------------------------------------
Do some of you still have the specs page, possibly in your browser cache? Remember to set it to "Browse offline" first. Posting it here directly would help :)

I for one hope they didn't make anything in the optical path smaller or otherwise lower-spec. Canon have a record of doing so in follow-up models. And then we get to blame the 'marketing department' :)

Lou Bruno January 25th, 2007 07:42 PM

Somebody will be advised that they should not have put any reseller bulletin information before the April anouncement. That's why it is off the web.

Anyway....................same specs with a HDMI output.

Jim Nogueira January 25th, 2007 08:08 PM

The mic input would be huge for me. Did anyone actually see that in the specs?

Wes Vasher January 25th, 2007 10:22 PM

Mic input was listed on the Circuit City page but that doesn't mean it'll happen of course, but it sure would be nice.

Chuck Fadely January 26th, 2007 07:53 AM

I think the wording on the ad was "mic terminal". It also listed "IEE1394 firewall".

I've got some information on this.

- It has 1/2 inch native 1920 x1080p CMOS progressive imaging sensor
- Variable frame rates, also 24F,25F,30F,60F 1080p mode
- XLR input
- Super-Slow-Mo mode
- Improved Low Light sensitivity
- LCD screen resolution is doubled
- User selectable Gain
- HDMI 1.3
- Captures to tape in 4:4:4
- Battery life tripled

Other than that it's not much different ;)

Pete Bauer January 26th, 2007 08:32 AM

I'll bet "captures to tape in 4:4:4" is misinformation. Canon will announce new cameras when they're ready; moving this thread to Area 51 for now.

If the above is true...

then it looks like I will be spending some more $ that I don't really have. :(

However, you are probably just stirring up the hornets nest here because that upgraded feature list sounds too good to be true.

I like the fact that they have gone fully progressive and halved the price.

And tripled the battery life! :)

Brad Vaughan January 26th, 2007 02:43 PM

booooooooooooo!

I really was hoping the - Super-Slow-Mo mode was true!

Paulo Teixeira January 26th, 2007 06:56 PM

It seems as though Canon is doing a publicity stunt because a few days ago, the words EOS-40D accidentally popped up and now this. An accident of this nature is one thing, but two within a few days?

This reminds me when the FX7 popped up in a European retailer site and the difference then is that Sony never told the site to take it down.

By the way, the camcorder will indeed have HDMI 1.3 compliant output.

Jack Zhang January 28th, 2007 08:45 PM

I just hope its Bigger than the HV10, this cam should be more like the size of the SR1 or UX1, You'd get more stable images.
