Full manual with HV 20

I just got my HV 20 and I can't find any way to set it for full manual like I had on my XL1 and Xh A1. Did they leave this feature out or am I missing something?

John:

Goto menu. "Full manual" is engaged from the P menu. You select either TV (shutter priority) or AV (Aperature priority), select the speed or aperature. Then exit menu. Then click "joystick" once, then down on joystick until exp comes up, then up with joystick to select exp. Then click sideways to decrease or increase exposure. It sounds more complicated than it is. You can turn zebras on to assist, either at 70% or 100%.

Once you have adjust exposure, you can actually select out of joystick mode, and you will be locked.

Only problem with this is you don't know what variable has been adjusted to get your exposure. You do know what the shutter speed or aperature is depending on what priority you picked, but the camera selects out the other variables to get the exposure. We assume that Canon is selecting the best option as (gain, variable shutter or fstop, depending on priority choice, and perhaps NDs, though I haven't actually confirmed it. Despite the less than professional readouts, it does a fine job.

Note that in Cinemode and P, you can also use the Exp selection to lock exposure level, but there, you don't know what anything is.

Finally, if you select auto on the right side of camera, you lose all control, so set that switch to P.

Press the Photo capture button, and you can see both Tv and Av values.
