Attaching 100mm Rectangular Filters without a Matte Box
I am not in a position to add a matte box to my recently acquired XF300, but I have a set of Formatt Hightec 100mm GNDs from my stills kit that I thought I might use. So I ordered an 82mm adaptor, only to find that it does not fit. The problem is that in order to get the filters as close to the lens as possible, the shoulder on the adaptor folds back over the outside of the lens barrel, but as the 82mm is Formatt’s largest adaptor option, the space between the 82mm thread and ID of the shoulder, is too small to clear the outside of the XF300 lens barrel (because it has the bayonet fitting for the lens hood.
So I am thinking that I could get something like an 82mm UV filter to place between the XF300 and Formatt adaptor. I could possibly remove the glass from the UV filter if desirable. Apart from not having a lens hood, can anyone pick holes in this strategy, before I waste more money on the 82mm UV filter?
