HAs anyone else seen this... a $500 rebate on the XL2 already? Does this mean there is a new camcorder coming soon?

Let's hope Canon realise they are about to be annihilated in the camera dept (If they aren't already) and are getting their arses into gear for something new. Aaron |

Oh wow... when I went back to canon's site the ad had changed and said a $300 rebate, but then I refreshed and it was back to a $500 rebate!!! What is going on? Anyone else see 2 different rebate amounts?

It's only for an XL2+16x combo or an XL2+3x combo. No rebate for the standard 20x combo.

Looks like the XL2 kit including the 20x lens plus the 16x or 3x to qualify. Perhaps the inventory of additional lenses is out of skew with forcasted sales. And since the replacement XL3HD will be a new lens spec, Canon will not want a warehouse full of add on lenses that will only fit an obsolete camera.

Yeah but Jimmy, we won't see the "Xl3Hd" until 2007 :) Guess they need to be prepared. Still, it's interesting and lets hope that means something within the year - we can only hope although I've lost a lot of respect for Canon. Aaron |

Dell has the Canon on sale for $3,749.25 if you use the coupon number listed in the DV Info classifieds and apply it at checkout. Don't know how legit it is but it worked on my computer.
Here's the DV Info classified thread for info: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42542 |

Yes $1,249 off for a XL2 if you type in coupon # ?LHTZ61F8P?NL9
$3,749 for a new XL2 with a lens! Also on Cannon USA's website it says if ypu buy a Firestore FS-4 40 or 80GB and the XL2 you get a $300 rebate. '' If the new Pannsonic turns out to be a bust this would be a cheaper way to go. I wonder how long that coupon number is good for? |

I tried Dell again, its saying get $499 instantly from them.
I tried the Canon website only $300 back when you purchase a firestore at the same time. I'll try again with the coupon. |

re: xl2 fer 3300 bucks
Dennis no doubt you have seen these nice looking websites in the past that have no connection to any bricks and mortar storefront operation. The reason for the low price is the classic hook. There's no lens for that price, in fact they likely have no part number for the stated 3299 offering. Often, the kit is a fantasy of shipped items and is usually a deviation from any kit that Canon vends to it's re-seller network. The wholesaler I buy from in Canada might allow about 5 points for my company on an XL2 which is par for the course on computer related electronics.
Caveat everything. Buy from real dealers. |

Better yet, buy from our Sponsors.

I second the motion...
Now if the 2 big multimedia suppliers in Toronto would simply adopt the style of BH Photo, the bewilderment of list price-itis might find a cure. But alot of that is caused by our strong dollar just now...
Perhaps one of them would like to step up and become a DV INFO NET Sponsor... Chris, you can send me an email with the details if you wish. Jimmy. |

We're hoping to attract at least one solid, reliable Canadian sponsor, hopefully within the next month or two.
