What's the best way to.....

I need to run from the sound board into my XL2. I was bringing 4 sub-channels from the sound board into a Presonus Firepod, adjusting volume from there and then running out from the Presonus Pre-amp with a line into channel 3 of the XL2. Is there a better way of doing this?

No you're doing it right, have the soundman give you the sub-mix outs to your mixer then take that to the cam... good luck. One thing to consider, taking that sub-mix you're going to be getting a mix that is post effect, so vocals will have a ton of verb or echo on them, they'll sound great for the house but may be saturated for your video. You might want to work on this with the soundman to see if there is a way that you can pull audio from the pre-fader send to your mixer and take a non-fx mix.
