Why would Canon produce something that doesn't look good? I mean they must have tested the format end over end, brought experts to review and analyze footage which brought them to 24F.

24F != Cineframe24

The official Canon line that I've been getting all day at the Expo is that it's basically 24P except in name. From what I've seen so far, I believe them. There's a lot more going on there, than Cineframe 24. It's definitely a very different beast.

20D - 5D still rumour mills
 

Well when rumours of the Canon still 5D full frame camera rolled out some months ago, threads and speculation were flying around abundantly.

People were going crazy and threads just like this one appeared in almost every forum about the 5D full fram still camera.

Last month the 5D came out and the beasts were sated with the realty of the new technology made available by Canon.

So this thread shows the very same characteristics as the Canon 5D threads.

There is truth in the existense of the new Canon XL - HD. It does exist,
but when it will be ready for market is another question that only Canon
can answer.

Canon will not be like Sony, Sony like to release new products almost
in tandem, pissing off owners of new gear only to watch as Sony trips
over their release methodologies and drops a new and better technology
on them 2 months down the line.

If Canon is going to drop this new technology onto the shelves it most
likely won't be till next year.

Maybe I missed one of Sony's releases? The PD-150 had been on the market for a good 3 years before the PD-170 came along, and it was only a minor upgrade. Then it was a few more years before the release of the FX-1, followed 6 months later by the Z1 (which everyone knew was coming). Just now the HVR-A1 is hitting the shelves and will eventually replace the PDX-10 which is around 3 years old.

But honestly, the day any manufacturer releases a new model your existing model continues to work just as well as it did the day before. I have a VX-2000, a PDX-10 and an HVR-Z1. I'm glad Sony keeps upgrading and improving. I've gotten plenty of good years out of the older cameras and they still do all the same things they did the day I bought them.

Canon has answered. Release date is November 2005. Canon doesn't announce new products until they have a model ready to ship within a couple months. This time is no different.
