Hello,
I watched your film and I think you need a hug. I like the look and composition of most of the video in the piece. There were a few places where I felt the editing was forced and a couple of shots that seemed unnecessarily shaky. Overall, I think you should work out a better story around the poetry for your next feature ("Light" I believe). You have many beautiful shots, but the video needs to go from somewhere to somewhere in order for the editing to gain greater meaning. You could, for example, introduce a character. It doesn't have to be a person (could be nature), but something for you to tell a story around and sequence shots to. You may also want to incorporate more natural sound to help the narrative along when transitioning between the lines of poetry. Just a couple of things I thought of when I watched the video. Again, the pictures are nice and I always enjoy the idea of using poetry in a story (evil sounding or not). Good luck, |
Thanks Cale all comments appreciated. I didnt actually shoot this for this perpous I had the footage and thought what could I do different to the usual, classical music and flowing transitions.
I may actually reshoot with a purpose and try it again. Thanks again, all comments very appreciated. Andy. |
Andy,
Great concept. I think you can take it much further. I think it would be more powerful with female narration. Something like a "mother nature" figure gone haywire. If you are planning to re-shoot some scenes then maybe a few very blurred shots of the mother nature figure in medevil costume moving thru the scenes. Regards, |

Comparison XL H! and XL 2
I will be giving a talk to a local birding group about videotaping birds. I would like to be able to show a side-by-side comparison of two close-up still frames taken of the same subject (preferably a bird) with the same lenses using the XL-2 and XL H1. I do not have access to an XL H1, so cannot do it myself. If anyone has two such frames, and would like to let me use them (acknowledgement given, of course), please contact me off the board at
sv4birds@yahoo.com. Thanks, Steve Siegel Miami, FL |
H1 Product Video/commercial
Here it is, my very first REAL video with the H1 at work. I was given the direction to think of a movie genre to make the video more entertaining than just a normal product video. We decided on 'Mobster' movie because of the product name... the Eliminator. I worked with my boss writing the video/ad. I did the story board, casting, directing, lighting, filming, and all the editing. Let me know what you think.

Hello,
I think you did a nice job. It's always good to see creative approaches in advertising. Lighting and a couple of pace issues are the two things I'd like to see tweaked. Darker, hazy, musty, smokey daylight style lighting would help the mob look and feel. As it is, the scenes are too clean, but I guess maybe that aids the focus of the product. Some of the angles from the opening sequence matched too closely (medium to medium). I noticed that you have a great range of tight and medium shots once the product showed up. Overall I liked the approach and the video has a quality feel to it. Good work, |
Hey did you use any adapters on that commercial?

Uncompressed XL-H1 w/mini35 and Zeiss Superspeed CinePrimes
Alright, I've compressed an H.264 for my website of some quick clips that you guys can check out. It is in the portfolio section, under "Uncompressed Footage."
I will try to get a short couple second clip up for download so you can see the video in full quality. The clip posted is from a film trailer I shot back last spring. It should give an indication of what the camera is capable of when taking advantage of its capabilities. |
Very nice!
Love how well the colors came out. What did you use to edit/color grade? |
Thanks.
That footage is actually not graded at all ... it is the Raw straight from the camera. |
Wow.
That sums up my opinion. ;) *goes back to fighting with 3 way color corrector* |
Hello Michael,
Great images... Give us some hints for set ups... We got the same set, XL-H1 and Mini35 but 300 seires. Take, Care CQ. |
