"Soften Light" Tips

I used XL1-s with on camera light (100WATT) ƒ¼ which is best in some shooting especially in dark condition, problem arise when during the interview shot, many complain from interviewer ¡§Your light is too annoying¡¨ when I point the light to them.

Any idea how to soften light in low budget way ¡§home made¡¨ or ¡§DIY style¡¨?
Suggestions please

Break out the sunscreen!

100 watts for an on-board light it pretty hot. I have an Anton Bauer Ultra-Light 2 on my XLs and never go over 50 watts at most. I usually use a 25 watt lamp in the unit, and even that is pretty strong when doing up-close interviews.

If you can't change the bulb, then I would suggest using a few layers of spun or some other type of diffusion to cut down the wattage.

Failing that...offer your subject some sunglasses! :)

I believe frezzi makes a soft box for just such a problem it's basiclaly a many chimera and takes a lot of the edge off of the subject when shooting them.
