Live Type? I thought that was dead, rolled up into Motion. But you can install older versions of Live Type with FCS 3.

Background rendering (with use of all cores) is all I really want. If that makes it in, definitely upgrading right away.

Yes and check your other software for compatibility with Snow Leopard.

The Reality Distortion Field will be strong that day.

It's strong every day at NAB. It's called marketing and some do it better than others.

I'm guessing a live video feed won't be possible?

The only company that upstaged Apple (at their last NAB in 2007) was RED when they showed off the first RED One cameras and the short film by Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp, "Crossing the Line." It was awesome! Projected via a 4K camera, and I was impressed with how friendly the RED crew were.

FINAL CUT PRO AND THE ROAD TO NAB | The Filmmaker Magazine Blog

Interesting Pre-NAB Editor's Lounge video (I only watched part 1), and I think some of the speculation is probably dead-on. But souped-up iMovie? I don't know... Aperture 3 has elements of iMovie, but isn't just a "souped up" version.

Dang, wish I was at NAB!

Tonight is the night people! I am very curious what Apple will give us.

Interesting read with some speculation. I hope he is right, because it sounds great. No round-tripping anymore, everything in one app, iPad control interface and optimized to run on one screen.

Let's wait and see.

I tried clicking on it, but it was acting weird (thanks, Blogspot). Here's a better link, I believe:

The Apple Critic (TV): The New Final Cut Pro

I really hope that's how this will be, all-in-one. Man, that would be great! FCP, Soundtrack, Motion, Color, Compressor, all in one app. Great find, Floris!

Heath, I couldn't agree more.

This is one of the things that I miss about Sony Vegas, in that I was able to everything from inside one app.
I still use Vegas form time to time via Bootcamp, but miss working in it every day. If Sony would have made Vegas for the MAC then I might never have switched. As I find FCP in it's current state clumsy and cumbersome.

If Apple finally has updated the code, Hell iMovie had newer code than FCP, and encapsulated everything inside one app, then I for one woudl be very happy.

My only concern for the future is not being able to capture tape. I am now tapeless in my workflow, but I still get tapes (mini HDV) supplied to my by other shooters from time to time, and not being able to at least capture tape could pose a problem.

Also to be anounced/demo'd will be the new IPAD app for Red Epic...

I don't see why they should get rid of it completely. It *should* be a relatively straightforward technology to implement, and I can't see how dropping it would benefit the software in any other way.

But it's Apple, and they do love to sweep into the room and tell everybody how to do things.

This quote on the Apple Critic site:

"But the Professional Editors won't like it, because it forces change, and Pros hate to change. If something works, and it is making you money, why take a risk on a new workflow/technology? This is the one feature that is prompting some people, who have seen the new version, to say that Apple is abandoning the Pro market. In fact, the reverse could be true - the pros could abandon FCP because it is too new. The newest versions of Avid and Premiere are evolutionary. The New FCP will be Revolutionary."

Certainly speaks to me, and I'm one of those "Why screw up my workflow" guys, but I'm also excited about new things, so let's see what happens.

Heath

ps-Sorry to do a huge "block quote," but I think this sums up what a lot of editors are thinking.
