"Motion JPEG A" in Final Cut 7 pt 1

An actress friend was having trouble putting together her reel and asked if I could help. I've never put a reel together before--or anything like that so this is a whole new world of problems:)

One of them is getting all these wonky files to work. One project of hers they gave her a DVD so she bought some converter called Mac the Ripper and pulled a few of her scenes from that and gave them to me which show up as "Motion JPEG A" under the "Compressor" column of Final Cut 7. Whenever I put one of those files in the timeline I immediately have to render the whole thing and then my computer which has been handling large pro res 422 files with ease, freezes up with the "dropped frames" message during the playback--and again that's after rendering. Is there a painless way I can convert the Motion JPEG A file into a friendlier format? |

MPEGSTREAMCLIP (free) will convert to ProRes, it will also grab the files as ProRes directly from a DVD saving you a second conversion.
