Hello Rohit, welcome aboard DVInfo.net!
I can't help you with your specific question, it does seem however that most people here use QuickTime and Windows Media.

How would anyone collect that information Rohit?
If you explained why you are asking, maybe we can help you. Perhaps you are deciding what format to use. That is a common question hotly debated here and other places. Sort the DVD and Web Delivery discussion by the number of replies and you'll sort them to the top. Why nobody is talking about flash video?
As i think flash player is installed in around 90 % of the PC (macromedia survey says so). So, flash video can have a major impact. regards, rohit

Flash is getting used more and more indeed as well. Personally
I don't like it so much because I want people to be able to download a movie to their computers and watch whenever they want. That's one of the reasons I'm not too fond of embedded movies either, unless they also over a direct download link.

What's the problem? You can offer *.flv files for download easily.
And offer the flv player for viewing the flash video files. Flash video player is available here: www.flvplayer.com Regards, Rohit

Rohit,
Did you read any of the existing threads such as the one I mentioned? There is no problem with Flash. I use it. Others use it. We also use QuickTime, and MPEG4. Flash is good for some things and not so good for others. If you research it, you'll find people complain Flash loses audio sync after 3-5 minutes. So, if you only use it for your music videos you'll be fine. I use Sorenson's stitching feature and successfully distributed 40 minute clips with no sync problems. S, I ask again. What exactly do you want to do? Streaming or progressive download. What tools do you have? Are you willing to invest in better tools to get better quality? How efficient does your workflow have to be? Do you need batch? |

Rohit: that might be true, but I don't know of anyone who has
the flv player installed (including myself). You asked about most used, flash is just not one of the formats yet. It is gaining ground fast, but that is only true for embedded video work. So as Ernest also asks, tell us a bit more. Are you looking to only embed videos or also offer downloads? Personally I would offer at least QuickTime and Windows Media, that seems to cover almost anyone. You could offer an embedded version in Flash that almost everyone can watch as well, and then link to QT and WM files if people want to download your movie. That gives people three major formats to choose from, they can download and watch offline if they want (lots of people download movies at work, bring them home and watch there!) to or just get it to store somewhere (as I do a lot with stuff I like etc.).

Many people offer a variety of options for download in different formats such as WM, QT, RealMedia etc.
