DR-DV5000 with BR-DV6000

We've been using our DR-DV5000 quite successfully on the back of our JVC GR-DV5000. Now next week we have a situation where the camera has to be out of town and there's an event here that I'd like to use the DR-DV5000 to record. In doing some testing with the 5000 hooked to our record deck, the JVC BR-DV6000, I've notice some anomalies in the control functions. The DV in/out of the 5000 is firewired directly to the DV in/out of the 6000. In syncro slave mode, the 5000 rolls to record at the same time the Rec button is pressed on the 6000. Hitting pause on the 6000 causes the 5000 to stop and ready the next clip, just as on a camera. However, when the 6000 is rolling and you press the Stop button, the 5000 continues to roll while the tape is stopped. Is this normal behavior? In my situation it is not critical since we'll be recording the entire event with no pauses. But I just thought it was kind of wierd. Is there some kind of control setting that I'm missing???

Also, the time code on the 5000 does not seem to match with that of the 6000, even though it is set to external mode. Again not critical in this situation but I wondered about it. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

Marty

Hi Marty,

Try the AV/C control mode on DR-DV5000. You should have more success with this as this was designed for use with VTRs.

Syncro Slave is more for use with camcorders.

Thanks, Matt! I tried that and the 5000 would not roll & record in sync with the 6000. I note that in the manual itself it says that AV/C mode is for use with playback and "NOT for use in DR-DV5000 RECORD MODES". As I said, the syncro slave mode will be fine for what we want to do - I just thought it was strange that the 5000 stopped recording when the "pause" button was hit, but not the "stop" button!

Hi Marty,

Not too sure about the BR-DV6000 specifically, but we had some AV/C fixes added in our latest version 1.3 software. You can download it from the Focus support site... http://www.focusinfo.com/support/ . Give that a try.

Hope that helps,

Matt
