TORONTO/GTA Canon HDV Rental Request: Easy Money

I have a fairly big job coming up, and I will be shooting with my Canon XHA1. Unfortunately, this job requires multiple cameras, and I am having a really hard time finding A1's or G1's (or H1's)for Rent. Vistek is all booked for that weekends (July 6th) so I am offering $250 cash for a one day rental of your XHA1 (or G1) They will be used by professional camera op's who are compelteley familiar with the camera, and your camera will be fully insured against damage incurred while on loan (if not covered by warrenty, eg. dead pixel). This could also lead to future work with our company (www.notomatofilms.com) as we are often looking for talented operators with their own systems.

If you are interested in making some fast, easy money ($250 for no work isn't bad), contact me via PM here, or respond to this thread. We'll exchange numbers and we can meet in person so you can establish I am not a theif who wishes to abscond with your Camera :)

Thanks in advance.

D.O.P needed for feature in Perth, Western Australia

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a feature film to begin shooting sometime at the end of this year, and unfortunately my D.O.P has had to pull out due to travel arrangements.

So I'm putting out a call for D.O.P's in Perth Western Australia!

Unfortunately due to budget constraints (aint it always the way? Most of it's gone on equipment) the job is unpaid, but it's going to be a large, professionally run project that would be great for getting names out there!

Some of the equipment you'll get to play with include a Canon XL2 camera and a Redrock M2 adaptor, as well as some Nikkon SLR len's.

The film itself is a look at both how relationships can be taken for granted and how rifts can occur between generations, set against the backdrop of an alternate current - day, where two political powers are engaged in a kind of 'cold war' (think the Berlin Wall).

I already have the makings of a great crew including two concept/storyboard artists, an acting coach, a music composer and several highly talented oung actors/actresses -all of whom are young names trying to get their work seen.

All I'm missing is a good D.O.P :)

I know it sounds pretty pathetic trying to find someone with these skills with nothing to offer but a credit, but there'll be no better chance for someone in Western Australia to have a crack at a project this size, and what can I say - you gotta start somewhere.

If you're interested or have any questions whatsover, please reply.

Cheers

Jon Palmer

Cast/Crew members needed for Arizona no-budget Fantasy/comedy (Take #2)

Hi!
Well, At the risk of being added to the looong list of cheesy requests for unpaid talent, here is mine, LOL!

Current Status:

On occasional weekends and possibly some weekdays during the fall/winter of 2007/08 I am going to shoot a feature length mini-DV format movie with XL1 cameras. I already have 1 camera as well as minimal audio equipment. I have three musical groups lined up for the soundtrack: Freezepop, Leslie Fish and (probably) Yachay. We have been trying to contact Rasputina and The Arrogant Worms for additional tracks but have gotten no reply yet. I will be directing, producing, building props, running one of the cameras Etc, Etc.

What We Need:

A good DP with his own XL-1 and/or just a second cameraman with an xl-1

A good sound person who has a decent portable recorder.

A secondary hair/Makeup person.

A lighting person. We also need lighting equipment.

We could use prop builders, a boom operator, prop handlers, and all the other folks that make a production run smoothly.

We have most crew positions still open and everyone involved will probably be wearing multiple hats.
We need lots of props and costumes, but may be able to borrow some of those from the local SCA group which may also provide some of the extras.
We are short several key actors and many smaller parts.

Missing Key Roles:

-Male Nerd/Gamer character: Strong acting and comedic skills required. Age range: should look like Teens to Twenties, skinny to average build. This is a major role and Dependability and ongoing availability are a must!

Objective

To produce a niche film appealing to nerds, fans of swords and sorcery films and people fed up with daily life, specifically "office-space" type working conditions.
If we succeed in creating a good finished product, we will pursue multiple avenues to turn that into cash, such as pitching it as a TV pilot, going direct to video, selling copies at Science-Fiction conventions, or whatever we can think of

What We Are Offering:

Screen credit.
1 meal or snack per shooting session. (Usually)
2 (DVD+R) copies of the film. And an additional 2 (Regular DVD) copies if it is released commercially.
Main actors and Key crew will receive from 1/2% to 1% of revenue from the film itself.
Minor actors and non-vital crew will not receive financial compensation unless the film earns us over 50,000 US dollars, in which case they will each receive a 100$ payment.
Any crew members not already appearing on screen will be given small walk-through parts if they wish to appear on screen. (Peasant#6, Guard#12, etc.) It is nice to be able to point to yourself on screen and say "there I am!"

Please note, this is essentially an unpaid amateur production and you will be working with a first time director. There will probably be some false starts and duplication of efforts. Patience with the process and with your fellow actors will be essential!

My Email: vikingwizard (AT) gmail (DOT) com

Project Website: WWW.OFFICEQUESTMOVIE.COM

Thanks for considering supporting our project!

My name is Matt, and I've been filming with the XL2 for 2 years, and have been shooting mostly outdoors (billfishing; action sports). Tampa Bay Area Graphics/Filmaker looking for projects!!

Hi. I am looking for some work to do with anyone in this area. It doesn't have to pay out a lot of money or anything. I'm just looking right now to build a really good demo reel. I'm very skilled on audio work, producing , Directing, writing, photoshop. My After Effects skills not as good but can do it. If anyone have any questions please shoot me an Email

Jon Palmer July 14th, 2007 07:10 AM

Hi guys, thanks for the replies (from Texas to boot!)

The project is scheduled to start at the end of August and will go through til around January/February of next year - but this mainly depends on cast and crews availabilities.

To reitirate, the job is unpaid (I did mention it but you may have missed it) - as a result I'm afriad I can't help anyone out with travel or visa's (ain't it always the way?)

If you are still interested please let me know and I can e-mail you all the details you want - including an almost-final copy of the script if need be.

Cheers once again - Jon

Lighting guy/gal/crew needed for short film in Roxboro NC

I am shooting a short crime drama that will be taking place at a local bar. My former lighting guy bailed on us at the last minute and we are having to re-schedule. We were hoping to shoot this Sunday but I would not want to rush someone into this project. We are probably going to be aiming for the end of August to shoot again.

Btw I need you to provide your own lighting kit and keep in mind that this is a ultra-low to no-budget film so you will not be getting paid. You will receive credit and a copy of the film.

SF/Bay Area: Seeking a muscian to help me score a short independent film

I am seeking a creative collaborator (or a small group of people) to create an original score for a short film project. Ideally I am looking for local people in the San Francisco / Bay Area.

This film is a high definition video project that I have been filming in SE Asia since 2002. The working title "16x9" reflects the sixteen or so South East Asian nations that I have visited during nine trips over the last 5 years.

This is the first time I have presented any of my work or sought the assistance of others. My ambitions for this project are very modest; perhaps to create something worthy of entry in a few minor film festivals.

This is a no-budget production, and I am not soliciting paid help. This might be suitable as a student film project or for someone with a keen interest in this genre of films, looking for a first project to become part of.

In return, I can offer you full participation in this project, and broad creative control and credit. I’m seeking an artistic partner, not just someone to score my visual ideas.

I’d like to find someone who is used to working with Apple Macs, OS X, Final Cut Pro Studio, & Soundtrack Pro. I can provide you with this equipment if you do not have your own. I will probably consider gifting this equipment and software at the end of the project, providing the collaboration is a successful one.

I have edited this short eight minute ‘proof of concept’ in order to show some of my footage and a few of the ideas I have about this as a finished piece:

http://web.mac.com/pramsbottom/iWeb/Site/16x9.html

Large 316MB h.264 file, please view with a broadband connection and the latest version of Apple’s Quicktime. It's been hinted for web streaming but unless you have a very fast connection, you'll probably want to let it download for a while. I can also provide it on DVD.

This has not been color graded, and the sequence and narrative is not exactly what I foresee for the finished project. However the non-verbal style and split-screen motif will be central to the finished film (although I am planning on a greater proportion of full frame imagery).

The basic objective is to illustrate the range of religious, cultural and economic diversity in South East Asia during the first decade of the 21st century.

This will be supplemented with existing footage from China, Mongolia and Thailand, plus new high quality XDCAM 24p material shot in China, Tibet, the Philippines, Brunei and Cambodia during the next 6 months.

I am hoping this will be a fun and productive collaboration. I’m a really flexible individual and definitely don’t have a film-makers ego. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Final note, the clips above includes scenes shot in Burma during April 2006 but I do not advocate tourist travel to this country, and regret my decision to visit there.

Best,

Paul.

Composer/sound designer available

Hello. I am looking to get my foot into the world of composing music and doing sound design for film. I have composed for feature and short film, dance, art installations, and other misc. collaborations.

Ideally I would like to work on paid projects, but I am willing to work pro bono and deferred if the project piques my interest.

My interests as a composer are minimal acoustic/orchestral music, generative forms, non-linear music, electronic/acoustic hybrid sounds and pop electronic forms. I am a performing musician and a classically trained pianist with a music degree to top it all off.

Audio Clips (short mp3 clips in varying styles):
Asian Flute/Upbeat Intense Pop Electronica
Upbeat Fun Blues Based Dance Music
Violin/Electronic Trip Hop
Rhodes/Glitchy Jazz

Writer/Producer looking to network with actors in VA/DC area

As the subject suggests, I am a writer/producer with an HD workflow interested in networking with actors (or other writers) in the DC Metro area, specifically the VA side of it. I have several scripts in progress and am looking to write specific actors into the roles. If we flip the shorts quickly, we can prepare to market for the upcoming festival circuit.

These are not paid gigs; they are more for experimenting with new techniques, building portfolios, networking, and having fun. I understand that I am asking for free labor, but I would prefer to work on the same level as the talent and cater to their strengths, creating a mutually beneficial situation. My small group of motivated individuals is ready to take our first steps, so let me know if you're interested in walking along.

Need wedding videographer Cincinnati Ohio 15MAR08.

If feels like months since I've last been here keeping up on the latest and greatest improvements. Now here I am needing assistance from the pros.

I'm getting married 15 March 2008 and need to find a videographer in the Cincinnati area. Location is actually Fairfield, between Cincy and Hamilton.

We're interested in a 2 camera shoot of the wedding and possibly only a 1 camera at the reception but 2 is also possible.

One thing I think we have going is that I've shot a few weddings and I feel the pain of what we go through so I'll be doing all that I can to make the videographer's job as pain free as possible.

Please send me an email with anything you may need from me as far as additional info, and a link to your site if you have one, as well as a package outline/pricing.

I appreciate everyone's help and look forward to working with and meeting a fellow DVIer.

Which film festival has a category for Best Zombie Movie?
Seriously, I gotta know... :)

BTW, as a long time fan of zombie cinema, I have to point out that a similar film was already made in the 80's under the title "Demons". A group of young adults is trapped in a movie theater by zombie type demons. It's awesome. Samurai swords and dirtbikes... Bliss.... It was French or German, can't remember which.

EDIT: Here ya go! The daddy of "I'm trapped in a movie theater by living dead!" (not to be confused with Night Of The Comet where a comet turns the world into mutants while only the people hidden in a movie theater survive)

I love IMDB

Fright Night Film Fest Louisville, Ky.

as far as Demons vs. Night of the Comet. Demons monsters were more possessed by evil spirits, and Night of the Comet, well that only started off in a movie theater for 15 minutes the rest of the film was in the greater Los Angeles area. Also Demons was started from someone putting on a mask... neither plot device will be used for this film other than the movie theater setting, but each film was a single screen theater, I am using a multiplex.
