underage jib operation? at DVinfo.net

Hi, I'm new on this site and i think i have a valid question...

is there a minimum age requirement to operate jimmy jibs?

im asking this because i myself am only 16 years old, but i've actually been operating my dad's triangle jib with a sony DXC-30 mounted (my dad's the producer not a jib operator)for 2 years or so, i know how to set up and strike a jimmy jib,and i operate a 12ft jib for a weekly christian television show called rhema today....and i really love jibs and all aspects of television and video production

ya so if there is a minimum age requirment please let me know, ecause i wouldn't want to be breaking any laws or anything....the only reason im not entirely sure is because i've worked on some indian concerts and other music concerts at places like the hershey center in canada and the Air Canada center, so until now i always just assumed that they wouldn't let me do this stuff in the first place if it was illegal, but now im not so sure

please let me know ^^;

That's strange. Indie film-makers are usually looking for ways to work around obstructive laws and you're looking for a reason to get tripped up by them.

I dont think there's much of an issue. I had a 17 year old on a JimmyJib for a Police Auction a week or two ago, no one said anything. I'm the last person to be underestimating due to age, and if you enjoy it - hey go for it! There are issues of minors broadcasting, but that's something else. As long as they arent using you as a counterweight or anything, I'm 80% sure it's legal. Good on you for checking it out!
