I'm hot on this trail a well. At the moment, when I'm in a studio situation I bring along one of my huge Dell 2405 widescreen LCD's with component input (and a cinema mode).
I wish there was a 15" widescreen lcd with component inputs, reasonably configurable color, gamma, etc, ideally even at 720x1280 native resolution.
Given how cheap computer monitors are at this size (like $100), surely a few hundred dollars more could get inputs and setup happenning.
Then a nice little field case with hood...

When scopebox manages to come out with their laptop firewire monitoring solution that will work with HDV, that also might be just what I can use.
