Dropped frames during ingestion?

Hello all, I have been suffering some dropped frames during ingestion and thought I would get some opinions. I shoot with a Sony VX2100 and the "blue" premium Sony tapes. I then use a Canon DV camera as a deck and ingest into my newer PC Windows 7 laptop. Laptop is year old, fast cpu and 4 gigs of ram. I shutoff internet and anti-virus.I have an older Sony VTR deck and thought was the problem, but I still get occasional drops.

Should I not worry about the VX2100 heads and use this to ingest?

Is an "apples to apples" laptop as good as a desktop for ingesting?

Do I invest in a new VTR?

Do I invest in a Mac?

Any suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated.
