Looking for small in car camera, Gopro?
I'm looking at the Gopro camera for all my in car and external car mount shots.
Is this camera worth the effort or is there some other small camera that can do a better job that I'm not aware of. Thanks |

GoPros are pretty amazing for the money...
You won't fool anybody into thinking you car-mounted an F23 or anything, but for an in-car (or outside-of-car) mount, the hardware does its job very well and for a camera that you could hide behind a large blueberry muffin and buy for less than 300 USD, it's worth a test. I have five of them...just bought two HD models for an upcoming project...hoping to test the HD models soon (I've used the SD models). There are other options out there as well... I haven't used any other camera for this purpose so I don't have other experiences to add to the mix. i know there are others on the board who have used other options.

I've used them in-car and on-car external for a reality show. They work well in bright light. I used the suction mount on the inside passenger side window, and outside on the fender looking back at the driver. Both decent shots.
That being said, if you are going to use anymore than 4 seconds or so of that angle, I would recommend something like a Sony CX-520 or the like (I'm holding out for this little triple-chip 1080/60p bad boy- Panasonic HDC-TM700K). The quality you will get from these cameras (with a wide angle lens if going in-car) is FFFAAAARRRRRR superior to GoPro's, with about double the size and weight, which is still tiny. My 2 cents. |

I love the GoProHD. Really versatile. And they've thought through how these cameras will be treated too, so you can easily get replacement watersealed cases, spare lens etc.
Here's a vid I made for a rally centre using a GoPro for the interiors. YouTube - Subaru Rally Experience with UK Active Outdoors |
