In the waterproof case, still get clear stereo sound, of rain, leaves rustling, cars swooshing on wet roads.

I'm interested in this camera. I have a GoPro Hero 4 Black and I find it very unreliable, shutting down without warning or not recording properly.
Do you know if the Sony is more reliable than the GoPro?

I have had zero problems with the X1000V.

For the GoPro, which I have, you must use approved sd cards. You can see the list on the GoPro site. The GoPro will also overheat sometimes, which will lower the quality of the video.

For the Sony, any UHS-1, u3 sdxc card will work. Note that in 4K the video bitrate of the Sony is higher than that on the GoPro.

Re: Sony FDR-X1000V 4K Videos

I couldn't agree more with Mark's assessment. I continue to use these in some very demanding environments and they always come through. One caution depending upon your climate, if you don't need the waterproof case in your application and it's hot, just mount the camera out of the case. Reason being, they have an overheat function that will terminate recording. Obviously the camera's heat, combined with additional heat from ambient conditions, can shut you down in that tight little case.

Yesterday I had two X1000's mounted inside a Eurocopter EC135, on the windshield. I got 14 minutes before my great little Sony's shut themselves down. This was in Texas, at 100 degrees ambient, in direct sun, magnified by plexiglass, and the Sony watertight case. I can hardly whine about that hiccup, bless the X1000's for not giving me an "are you nuts?!!" message when I powered them on:)

I have mounted them in supersonic military jets and they ride through G's that most people couldn't, without the slightest hint of "jello". Color and sharpness is beautiful right out of the camera. I have owned six GoPro's and never received performance like that from any of them. Interestingly enough, the X1000 performance led me to look into Sony up the line and caused me to purchase an X-70, FS/7, Z150, and in the near future an F/55. Good work Sony!
